Will a 140-90-16 tire fit on the rear or a 1982 GS1100GK the original tire size is 130-90-16.Tags: None

How wide is the rim itself? Even on a 2.5" wheel a 140 gets pinched enough to give the tire a triangular crown. I tried a 140 on a 2.5" wheel once and didn't like it. If you have a wider rim than that then go for it.

There may or may not be clearance to the drive shaft, but that is not nearly as important as having proper support for the tire and maintaining the proper shape.
As Billy Ricks mentioned, putting a wide tire on a narrow(ish) rim will pinch it into a triangular profile and will actually give you a SMALLER contact patch on the ground.

I believe that rim is 2.75" wide. A 140 will fit on the rim okay, but I'm not sure about the swingarm.Ed

Not sure about the chain-driven 1100s but I have not seen any shafties with a rear wheel wider than 2.5".

I wonder where I got the idea they were only 2.50?
