The brass tip just flushes with the rim surface, then the rubber shoulder of the valve stem hits and will not pass into hole.

tire tube rim question
I have a tube front alum. mag. The valve stem on the tube is too fat to fit through the rim hole. It is definitely a motorcycle tube and the correct size. Has anyone ever had to enlarge/ drill the hole in the rim a tad larger to accomodate the valve stem?

I personally run tubeless and have not heard of this problem, but if you don't want to enlarge the hole, which should be no problem to do, I would check out a different make tube.NO PIC THANKS TO FOTO BUCKET FOR BEING RIDICULOUS

There are a few different types of valves you'll find on motorcycle tubes.
Clearly, you have the wrong valve, even if the tube is the right size.
The valve style you need is TR6. Fortunately, this is the most common style.
Personally, I'd much rather get the correct tube than drill the rim.1983 GS850G, Cosmos Blue.

I exchanged for the right tube with the steel stem....not rubber.
Question, do both nuts go outside the rim?

Sorry couldn't see the pic that well on my phone.. thought that was the rim not the tube!
Washer & nuts outside. Use one nut or two (2nd is a locknut but not all tubes have it (or even have the washer).
