M/C site glass replace
Any advice on a brake fluid proof glue to use. replacing deteriorated plastic site glass with a glass one.Tags: None

I have never found a piece of glass the right size and shape, but have replaced several with a piece of Lexan.
The glue I used was a two-part epoxy. After removing the old window, dry-fit the new window to make sure it fits. Remove it, then mix the epoxy. Spread a thin bead on the ledge where the window will sit, place the window, then spread a bit more epoxy around the edge to make sure it's sealed. Even if it's quick-set epoxy, let it set overnight before turning the master cylinder upright and filling it with fluid.

I really need to do this on my GS850 before something Very Bad happens... wasn't there a kit or someone selling new master cylinder sight glasses?1983 GS850G, Cosmos Blue.

Thanks Steve. I got a glass one from New River Cycle in Dublin, Va. I put the caliper on it and it appears to be the right size. They say they can custom make any size you require.

If I didn't already have several small pieces of Lexan (acrylic will also work) sitting in the corner of the garage, I would go for the watch crystal.
What are they made of?
Do they withstand constant exposure to brake fluid?
How fragile are they, in case they get bumped?

good questions. watch crystal material? i dunno, not plastic, some mineral. tough enough to survive on a watch? there is a more detailed thread around somewhere....http://www.thegsresources.com/_forum...=watch+crystal
towards the end there is a link to another website where the idea originated. i'll post to show how it went with mine, i need to make a thread with all my winter projects in it anyway.

THIS is similar to what I use.
Half the price, MANY more sight glasses possible, also many other uses.
Plus, ... you can go to your local Lowe's or Home Depot store and have it TODAY.
