    Swing arm swap

I have a 79 GS1000 and would like to install an aluminum swing arm. What aluminum swing arms will fit?

82 1100E model should work. I just tried with my 79 1000L model and it won't go on without some modding cuz it hits the frame before the shocks fit. i either need to find a way to make it work or sell the swingarm with brand new bearings in it.

I think my issue is the "L" frame itself

Should be a direct fit with the 1100e arms.

Put one on my 78 1000.

No issues. Use the 1100 chain guard since the 1000 mounts are slightly different.

some 1000's you will need to prise apart the rear footrest frame sections, dont worry about it, most people who fit the 1100 swinger do it, its a common mod

Just bend the rear part of the foot peg mount 1/2 inch out. You will see & understand it easily when you mount the swinger. It is obvious & easy. Simple bolt on mod. Looks GREAT too.

I didn't even think of just prying it out a little bit. Yeah, it doesn't need to move much. I think I'm gonna take my old one off again and put the 1100e model back on today.

Thanks guys, that helps a bunch. The rear foot peg mounts were removed by the previous owner so that won't be a problem.

You can put a bolt in the rear footpeg hole, put a piece of pipe on it for leveage & easily bend it outward.

you need to do each side separately with a long lever bar
