    Age Of My Tires?!?!?!!

    Here are my numbers

    Front: K31P 619 096 (096 in the box)

    Rear K3 S17 415 (415 in the box)

    from what i read online my front was manufactured the ninth week in the 6th decade and my rear was manufactured the 41st week of the 5 decade... I am missing something. Please help!

    So the DOT code to the right:

    I found it, here ya go. The first two n umbers dicate the week and the third number dictates the final n umber in the year but decade isn't supplied. It surely pre 1999. Hope this helps another

    MA = Zhejiang Best Rubber Co. in Shaoxing, China
    L9 = G78-14 (maybe!)

    ABC = the exact type of tire

    032 = the 3rd week of 1992 (or 1982 or 1972!) but not 2002!

      While you are taking a good look at your tires, are there are cracks in the rubber, perhaps along the sidewall or between the lugs in the tread? Are there any odd bulges or low spots? Is the tread worn down to the wear bars? Do they leak air?

      If you answered yes to any of these replace your tires. If not, don't worry too much about it, unless you intend on racing.

          If your tires are that old I would be very scared.

          Thank you for your indulgence,

            BassCliff, thanks for that great link. That was the best explanation of tire terminology I have ever read. Now I finally understand all those tire codes, numbers and letters. Thanks again.
