(82' GS1100E) In need of shocks to lower bike?

I'd like to lower my bike a bit but don't know what I should be looking for.

The currently (stock) shocks seem a bit too high for me even in lowest position. I'm unsure if the progressive shocks are simply better or lower too.

(I'm also looking for a Corbin seat but I think the shocks will make a bigger change.)

Any suggetions?

What's the center to center distance of your current/tired shocks ? Look into discarded/almost new harley shocks- they tend to be good quality (Showa,etc.) and you could opt for one inch less length to experiment with.
