'82 GS750t drum brake will not budge

I am in the process of rebuilding my bike and I am currently working on the rear wheel. I cannot get the drum brake to come off the hub. I have searched the forum and did not find a good answer to this. I'm pretty sure the shoes must be causing the problem, but I cannot get anything to penetrate the hub as far as lubricant. I don't want to screw up the hub or brake plate by trying to pry it loose. Would heating it work? Not with flame, but maybe a heat gun? Any help would be appreciated.

    Brake cleaner

Since no one has replied yet, would brake cleaner be advisable too. I don't know how it would get in but I guess it is worth a shot. Since I am totally rebuilding the rear hub, is there anything else I should look for that isn't mentioned in the Clymer manual? I'm not used to drum brakes so this is a big learning experience for me. Ay imput would be appreciated.
