    Cast Wheel Variations?

Hello, this is my first post...so hi everyone. I ran a search but did not find an answer I'm looking for so I apologize if I am asking something that is well known here. First the situation....

I'm using a set of GS550 wheels to adapt to another bike.

The front is done, but I have run into issue with the rear. I am loosely following the lead of another member of the forum I'm active on and he used a rear wheel from a GS550l for the conversion and had no needed modification to the wheel. I purchased a set of wheels sold as '85 GS550l but will need to do significant modification to my current pulley hub:

    the wheel I bought (sold as '85 gs550 l 16x2.75)

My question is was there variation of the specs of the cast wheels within the years? Does it matter if you use a set of wheels with the pattern I have or the ones with a more star shaped pattern?
Thank you very much for any clarification anyone can offer.

That wheel is from the 2nd generation 550 ('83+) and is different from the early wheels.

Hello, another question if someone could clarify. I got back on my project and found the brake side not the dimension I expected either. the ID of the wheel where the shoes fit is 7.5" which is about 1" larger than I expected. Is the brake hub different on the later bikes as well? Thanks
