Sorry I cant help, but welcome to the site, from a fellow 1150 owner. Post some pictures when you get a chance. ....
Cartridge emulators are said to make a big difference on these bikes, although I have no personal experience.

Use allballs.com 's fork conversion table to see if there are bearings that will work with the kaw stem and the gs neck.
Another variable is the length of the kaw stem.
