Can i convert to a gsxr mono shock?
Hey my current bike is a 1983 suzuki gs750e and i am Looking to upgrade/ replace stock mono shock. Question is would a 1986 gsxr 750 mono shock bolt up. From the pictures the gsxr shock looks like it has identical mounting points.Tags: None

ok here is a better picture lots of weight savings complete frame up resoration, had this bike since I was 19 and am 30 now.

You have to make sure of end types eye to eye or eye to clevis, but mostly shock length and spring rate must be close.
Why go to such an old shock? I have a 2008 R6 shock I am going to put in my '89 Katana that is almost a direct fit and is much newer tech and in almost new condition.

Oh sweet ill have to look at an r6 shock. I just didnt know you could use a newer shock without modding the shock rocker/ mount. Ill check it out thanks.

There is a Ducati shock also that has been used also a direct fit as I understand

ok here is a side by side comparison of a 1986 gsxr shock compared to the stock 1983 gs750e. The gsxr shock eyelet to eyelet center is 11.5''. the gs shock is eylet to eyelet is 13''. and gsxr shock bolts right up no shimming or fitting. Guess i will have to reaserch more on newer shock lengths to match stock dimensions. By the way i removed the stock shock and when i removed the preload line there was no fluid in the line or preload adjuster, guess that would be part of my problem of bottoming out on the exhaust (vance and hines). so i put fluid in it and it preloads the spring now. But still want to change to a mordern shock to cut some weight and get a better ride.

That GSXR shock spring looks a LOT heavier/stiffer than the other.

Ok so i bought a 98 ducati rear mono shock from a m900. eyelets match up just add 2 washers to make it a flush fit for the bolt. i had to flip it upside down to mount it so it would clear the top suspension rocker. meaning the nitrogen charge port and preload adjustment colars are facing the ground/mounted on the bottom. ok weight savings are stock is 10lbs with preload adjsuter and dampening adjuster, the ducati shock is 5.15lbs considerable, half the weight of the stock and I did notice a diferrence when just rolling the bike with my feet flinstone style. Now height measurements from the ground to the bottom of my seat stock shock was (29'') and with rider 173lbs was 27 3/4''. with the ducati shock from ground to seat (28 3/4''), and with rider 173lbs was 28 1/2''. i was so satisfied with this conversion. riding i noticed stiffer feel from the rear no sagging sloppy rear suspension, and the big one, the exhaust header collector does not scrape the ground on right turns !!!!!!
