    Progressive shocks GS425

I've checked the forums a bit and haven't found anything very specific to the 425 - I assume the length of the shocks are 13-13.5" though I will measure before placing any orders. I'm looking for a really nice upgrade to the spent OEM shocks on my ride. I frequently ride with one up and will be riding loaded with luggage racks as I have plans to do some future touring. Hagon or Progressive would be best.

    Thanks for any comments,

I would email Dave Quinn and ask him to recommend a shock/spring setup from Hagon. For my GS450, with me riding 100% solo, no luggage and at 150# with all my gear, he suggested I drop down to a 78# spring instead of the standard 90#. I imagine the 425 wouldn't be too far off.

For anyone that is interested, sometime in May or June I contacted Dave Quinn and purchased a set of Hagon shocks and springs for ~$200 pre built. After installation I had a terrible squeak that I could not track down. I even removed and rebuilt my rear tire out of safety concerns but the issue prevailed. Finally I found that one of the shocks Dave sent me was incomplete. There was supposed to be a rubber or plastic grommet fastened between the shock and spring meant to dampen the vibration. It is metal on metal. I'm a little upset as I paid so much money for the set but I've emailed Dave about the issue and currently awaiting a response. I will update with his reply for anyone that is following or interested.

I'm interested...especially in how you like them.

We put a set of Hagon shocks on Mrs. Steve's bike this summer.

Talked to Dave Quinn, gave him all the specs and mentioned we wanted them an inch shorter, so she could reach the ground better.

Got them installed, she really likes them. Unfortunately, life has gotten in the way of doing as much riding as we wanted, but she smiled after every ride, still commenting on how good they are.

Along with the Progressive fork springs, her suspension is now working the way it should.

Hagon built you the shocks and springs (prebuilt) for $200??? That's seriously cheap. I may just pick up a pair for shi*s and giggles to see how they compare to my Ohlins rep built shocks. I tune my racers around "canyon carving" so my valving and spring rates need to be on the aggressive side and even for my 425's chassis being short.. I love the stiffer sprung ride.

They were $220 or something for the set from Dave Quinn, shipped.

If anyone is interested I emailed Dave about my problem and he got back to me in literally 1 hour. I'll have to pay return shipping, which I'm not very happy about, but he said he'll fix them for me. I can't really complain. Haven't sent them the shock in question back yet but will update with the finished product.

Agreed about the stiff ride. My 300lb+ friend sat on my bike little 425 and the springs only compressed an inch or so. He loved it. They are a little bit stiff for me but I have never ridden on new premium shocks and have nothing to compare them to.

              Cheers,

I am just learning about Dave Quinn and Hagon shocks, but it seems that if you tell him the ride is too stiff, he may give you a softer spring. Since you have to send them in, it is certainly worth asking. In that case, you get a shock swap and a repair for the cost of shipping, which might make it feel better
