Ive been searching for some info about emulators as i dont know anything about them. Not much actually comes up about them other than people think they are great.

Can anyone recommend brands and where to buy?

Im currently running progressive springs in my 1980 1000G.

basically allows you to split the damping circuits so that they can be adjusted independently. You use the emulator to adjust the compression damping & the oil weight to adjust the rebound damping (you should note that any change in oil weight means you will have to re-adjust the emulator as well).

The only supplier is Race Tech.

I turned up a brass adapter for the outside of it to make it fit the 37mm forks & it works great. Bit cheaper than racetech (if you have access to a lathe & some brass...)

It also gives regressive damping on the compression side so that the valve will blow off on nasty sharp edged hits but still provide firm damping for good feel at low damper speeds. OP, they are a huge improvement over damper rod forks.

I thought I would have been ignored if I had asked such a question when I joined a month ago, so I searched the forum for all posts regarding "cartridge emulators" which ultimately lead me to website salty_monk posted a link to and of course the racetech website (that explains the benefit).

Again you guys prove to be a quality and sincere group. Although I'll still continue my habits of searching first.

It took a while, but I finally found some threads back when I installed CE on my bike. Here is an entry into some other discussions.

i have the racetech emulators on my es, good stuff. i got a better deal on amazon than straight from racetech.

Mike's XS sells cartridge emulators for considerably less than Race Tech.

But sadly only in one size and not the size most (all?) of the GS's need. You have to make a sleeve/bushing like salty_monk did to use the Mike's XS emulators. If you have the resources to do that they are a great deal.

Depending on how many virtual beers you send me I might even be inclined to send you the CAD drawing.....

Of course it might also help if you were a little less blunt in asking.... They are not quite just a sleeve I did have to put a bit of thought into them!

One of the Canadians made up a few more sets for his mates from memory... Not sure who now. It's only a good option if you can source these cheap enough. Think Racetech's are about $160 so you have $95-$100 to play with (but for the hassle unless I could save at least $50 I would just buy RT's ones personally).

A drawing would be nice, but I can do my own if I have to. I see you did them as I was thinking, with an enlarged step in the bottom of the adapter to properly center them on the top of the damper rod.

Where are you finding RT emulators for $160? Of course, shipping up north kills us. They probably want $40 to send a small package my way.
