    Shorter shocks for GS1100?

I would like to find shocks that are an inch shorter than stock for a big GS.(GS1000E, GS1100LT) Any ideas.

Stuff I've done to my bike:dancing: 1100E front end with new Sonic springs, 1100E swing arm conversion with new Progressive shocks installed, 530 sprockets/chain conversion, new SS brake lines, new brake pads. New SS fasteners through out. Rebuilt carbs, new EBC clutch springs and horn installed. New paint. Motor runs strong.

They both use the same length shock. Nearly all those big GS bikes of that era do.

No, GS1000s, early GS1100Es, and the GS1100LT all use the same shocks. Probably all the 750s of that era too. All have the same length.

                I am a little lost.
What bike do you have? Year? Model?
What is the length of the shock you are looking for?

Have you thought of altering the seat instead?

                  I have a 79 GS1000EN, and a 80 GS1100LT. It's not about seat height, it's about lowering the center of gravity.

What length shock do you have now? Maybe someone before you upgraded for better view!

Shocks on my son's 1981 GS750L are 12 3/8" center to center. I believe that's shorter than an E, and looking for some an inch longer.

You won't find shocks short enough to lower the C.G. enough to make any difference.

What is your goal? These bikes are basically top-heavy, there's not much you can do without some drastic sawzall surgery.

If you are trying to improve cornering ability, by the time you lower the center of gravity with shorter shocks, you will run out of cornering clearance and it won't matter.

It will make a difference launching on the dragstrip.

Every shock of any of my bikes, or parts bikes, measure right at 12 3/4". Maybe a little past that, no doubt a metric thing.

My 81 gs650L has 13 3/8 inch center to center- they don't appear to be stock. Maker's marks are unreadable, but they work well.
