    1984 gs1150ef front end onto a 1982 gs1100e?

    Has anyone ever swapped an 84 ef front end onto an 82 1100e? If so how did it turn out? worth the effort? handle better or worse? doesn't look like a lot of trouble, but I am wondering if I am maybe missing something.

    I was also going to attempt swapping in the rear wheel as well. I know I will have to modify the brake trailing arm for that.

    I put an 1150 front onto a 750ef. It was a straight swap (even the steering stops lined up). It made the front of the 750 a lot better, but then again the original 750 front I had was probably a little tired.

    The 1150 front clamps are a bit wider to accommodate the slightly wider 16" tyre, so I think that adds a bit of stiffness to the front.

    No idea how hard a rear wheel swap would be, but I'd say it probably wont make things much better (if any) than what you have now.

      yes the front forks are considerably wider and the front wheel is wider and smaller than what's on there now. the rear should be simply a matter of relocating the rear brake trailing arm so not too worried there. I know the ef handled way different than my 1100e before I stripped it down for parts.

        The best use of the 1150 front end is to use it in combination with a 17" wheel conversion. It will fit 3.5"x17" in the front and the extra fork length makes ground clearance a non issue. You could ease the fit on the rear by going 4.5"x17" and avoid a lot of chain clearance issues.

        This would represent the easiest conversion to modern rubber radials you could do.

        The 82 has an 1150 front end on it. neither bike is mine, just part of my research when I did my conversion. Other than the photographic evidence, I can't answer much more.

        You can see the 80-81 is using a GSXR fork that is probably pretty short so it retains the stock exhaust for increased ground clearance.

        Using the 1150 on the EZ will avoid fitment issues with the clocks, steering stops, headlamp ears all of which have to be dealt with. If you don't want the 1150 clip ons then you can get so top clamps for more normal bars.
