    GS550 Shocks

    Hello,

I need to replace the shocks I have on my GS and mine surprisingly measures 380mm / 15" in length eye to eye ! That's pretty crazy for a GS550 since I've heard they have 330mm stock shocks.

My bike doesn't look like the rear end sits high and the geometry looks fine. I can't explain why these were on there, I bought it like that. Please suggest some good performance shocks.
I really need help on this.

    Would this be good ?

Yes, that is a decent enough shock, but how about posting a picture of your bike (from the side) so we can see the height of the bike with the 15" shocks in place?

Stock length should be 12.5" eye-to-eye. I bought Progressive Series 12's for my '77 GS550 on Amazon for $213 with springs (sold separately). You can go to the Progressive website and find available shocks. These shocks work fine. Only adjustable for pre-load, but no issues. Good luck.

        Here you go.
I bought it 3 weeks ago.
It was in pretty bad shape. It's completely parted right now.
Paint, seat and mechanics are being done.
The bike doesn't sit high. as you can see. The rear frame section has been modified to accept a bratstyle hoop.

By the way, as you can see the previous owner modified the frame. Check to see near the shock mount on top. Ugly welds lol

It's been altered quite a bit. Swing arm is not stock, and neither is the upper shock mount. I don't belive that there were any changes from '77 to '78 except for the seat and the option for cast wheels. I would be hesitant to buy the ebay shocks as you don't know what rate springs come with them. Hope it works out for you.

Thanks, will have to wait the whole bike is mounted again.
Will be able to figure whether to lower shocks or go with the 380mm ones.
