    Wheel bearing compatibility chart??

    Hi all,
Does anyone know where I could find a list of bikes (not just Suzukis) that have the same front and rear wheel bearings?
I want to get a different set of wheels for my GSX 400E, wider rear wheel and both 17".
I have manufacturer codes for the front and rear although the rear is a little confusing due to either side of the wheel the manufacturer codes are different plus theres about 4 bearings in the rear wheel set up. Any help would be great.
    Thanks

Wider wheels typically require a larger diameter axle.

Understandable but the bearings are the same in the gs 1100 and a fair few other gs's. I'm only looking to put a small CBR or NINJA set on. Thanks though.

The GS550/750/1000 shared the same wheel, but the smaller bike used smaller bearings and a thinner axle.

You are unlikely to find a set of wider wheels such that you can reuse your old axles so why worry about the bearings?

Because the Suzuki dealer gave me a short list of bigger bikes with the same bearing so I assumed they had the same size axel. Rather source wheels with the same size bearings so I dont have to buy a new axel.

You might be able to do some cross-referencing here:
Front and rear wheel bearings sold each for motorcycles in CRC2's Online Catalog of New motorcycle Parts and Accessories Indy

This lists the standard available wheel bearings at Cycle Recycle II. Click on each brand's list to see a chart of what bikes use which bearing.

As you can see, there really aren't that many in common use -- he probably covers 95% or more of Japanese bikes with these nine bearings. There are a few others out there, but they're going to all be standard industrial sizes.

This is a chart of all metric bearing sizes. Not all these will be easily available, but it may be helpful:

You can also visit McMaster-Carr and use their filter tools to search based on an axle size.

(this link might work: http://www.mcmaster.com/#standard-ba...ller-bearings/ )

With some back and forth, you should be able to narrow down the options.

Swindy, look at the GS500 for a front wheel (and search ebay for Katana 600 wheels - they are similar). I considered using a GS500 rear wheel on my GS450, but the sprocket carrier didn't line up. With a little research, I found that a Bandit 400 rear wheel worked really well though.

Why mess about going to a bike shop for bearings? Take your measurements to a bearing shop, same bearing a lot cheaper

Don't say can't, as anything is possible with time and effort, but, if you don't have time things get tougher and require more effort.

Agreed. I buy most all bearings from Motion industries. They just measure them, cross reference and if not in stock it's only 1-2 days. None of that back-ordered for 6 weeks crap and half the money.
