brake drag ? 1150e

The only time I ever road this GS was when it was new back in 84 so I don't recall what it was like to push it around without the engine. Just maneuvering in my garage takes considerable effort it feels much heavier than my heavier CBX. Part of the difficulty will be due to the narrower handle bars vs the wider CBX clip-ons

I'll be taking off the front wheel this weekend is there anything in particular that I should looking for in the front brakes that would account for the drag, or is this resistance normal for a a GS.

The brakes do work front and rear, I've had the rear apart and everything looks good and works well.

Tires are properly inflated? The easiest way to check brakes is to get a wheel in the air and then spin it by hand to see how much drag there is. If it doesn't turn pretty easily by hand then you may have a problem.

Firstly I would gear the front wheel off the ground and check if it's free to spin if it's not it could just be the pads are not fre to move correctly may need slides cleaning.
Or it may be the Pistons in the calliper are tight/seizing up if so a full strip and clean and new seals.
in fact if the brakes have not had attention since 1984 then a full strip/clean new seals and fluid and new brake pipes are needed.

I had 2 issues with mine.
One, was the rear brake was dragging due to rust/corrosion in the rear master cylinder. This came up and was fixed quickly.
The other I unknowingly lived with for13 or so years. Clutch drag due to an improperly (not ) shimmed clutch basket.

Richard (Londonboards) explained it fairly well. Im not a 1000% sure, but I seem to recall reading that not all GS clutches were shimmed like my 1150.

brakes are an easy fix if that's the issue, if it's a serious clutch issue I'll push the GS into a corner until next year...

My clutch suffered from PO hackery. It had an 1100e inner hub and missing washers and shims.

My rear brakes seemed to work fine, but then I realized they weren't retracting and locked up. The bike is relatively new to me and I hadn't serviced them yet. I took everything apart, cleaned the parts and flushed the lines and MC, reinstalled and everything is working as it should.

That's a long way of saying dirt can cause the brakes to hang up.
