1978 Gs400X Tire Questions

So I picked up a little GS400X from CL and i'm cleaning/tuning/refurbishing and of course, it needs new rubber.

Does anyone have experience with putting a 100-90-18 Shinko 712 on the front and a 110-90-18 on the rear?

90-90-18 on the front now and a 100-90-18 on the rear. I don't want to compromise "handling" and I don't think my increase is over the top. I am pretty sure that there will be sufficient clearance with the fender in the front, and no worries with the swingarm.

Just curious if anyone has upped the width the small margin and the results. I have run the 712's on my 1100G for about 3 years and really like them.

What are the wheel sizes (particularly the width)?

100/90 and 90/90 is already an increase from the stock 3.00 and 3.50. There's nothing to achieve going bigger than that unless you increase the rim width. Minimum rim width for a 90/90 is a 1.85 and you've got a 1.60 front rim stock, so you're already dangling on the edge. The rear rim is a 1.85 and that's pretty well maxed too.

The early 400 frames were pretty flexy in front and adding a wide tire just makes it more obvious.
