    Pressing out a steering stem

Would a 6 ton harbor freight press out a steering stem?

The stem itself will simply drop out, once you remove the nut that holds it.

What part are you trying to press out?

The stem from a triple tree, I want to the stem in a different triple tree, for a 17" tire conversion

Why not just use the entire fork/triple/stem assembly from the 17" setup?

If it's a steel stem in an alloy bottom yoke, yes.
Steel in steel usually has a weld there too which has to be ground or machined out first.

A 6 ton press would be verrrrry doubtful. I have a 20 ton press, and while I haven't pressed these exact parts, similar assemblies often require a large portion of my 20 ton press' capabilities.

A 12 ton press would probably maybe might possibly do it, but it's not significantly cheaper than the 20 ton press.

A hydraulic press is a wonderful and extremely useful tool -- I've used mine far more than I ever thought I would for stuff I never dreamed of.
