1980 gs1000gl front caliper rebuild kit.

Could someone point me in the way of a trust worthy rebuild kit. Also a quick run down on doing the rebuild.

Use compressed air in the fluid port and pop out the piston.

Clean out grunge.

Part# 59301-45822 - this part number includes the two parts listed below AND the piston

Part# 69107-05CF0 Desc SEAL,PISTON

Part# 59308-45200 Desc BOOT PISTON


Part# 59312-45200 Desc BOOT AXLE - if the sliding pin boots are torn you can get new ones.

Use heavy black moly caliper grease on the sliding pins.

Be sure to replace the brake lines. They are sure to be full of sludge.

Use OEM parts only -- the aftermarket rebuild kits are expensive garbage and don't include the piston.

If the piston is stuck use pliers, grips or similar and push slightly inward to break if free first. Exercise caution with the compressed air when pushing it out though, make sure the piston can't get away from you. I almost brained a neighbour once I thought was way out of range.

Yes. There are several places with online parts diagrams and online ordering for Suzuki parts.

Sound advice. Considering how critical brakes are to life and limb I can't imagine using anything but OEM. There are places to save money and places to not, this is definitely not a place to cheap out.

I wrap the caliper in a rag when doing this and make sure the piston bore is pointing away from me. Do I actually have to mention using safety glasses when playing with compressed air and potential projectiles?

Stuffs in the shopping kart. Just waiting on taxes to come in. Definitely want quality oem on the brakes. If you've seen my build thread you'll see its a tad haggard but i won't skip on quality brakes..

When I have taken them apart, it hasn't been uncommon for minor parts like the cover, spring pad, and pad shims to be missing, or the boots on the pins to be rotten.

I figured there would be, just need to get something going for relatively cheap. My roommate traded off my original fully functional calipers off with his bike with out telling me so yeah.
