    GS1000 Fork legs question

    hi all,

converting my GS1000C to front fork with spoke wheels/single caliper.
This stuff is rare as hen's teeth on this side of the pond.

Found original spoke wheels with the alu rims a while ago and now ordering
a RH fork leg without caliper mount. Seller has a LH fork leg, too.

Can anyone tell me if there are any differences in LH fork legs between the C and other models ?
    (The OEM nrs differ)
I have some LH legs so it would make no sense to spend the money for sale and shipping if there are no differences.

    thanks !

I think you need both fork legs since the LH leg is different between single disc and dual. You might want to check the part numbers using an online parts fishe to confirm...http://www.alpha-sports.com/suzuki_parts.htm

I have done the reverse of this, swapping the single disc for dual. You need both legs and the single rotor. The single rotor is bigger and thicker than the dual rotors.

You can run dual disc with those wheels as well (and recommended - much, much better).

converting to the C setup because i love the oldfashioned look of the spoke wheels and single disc.
Will use organic Brembo pads, hopefully that will help.

Polish the crap out of all things aluminium and SS, this bike will bling with the shiny aluminium rims, hubs, polished SS spokes and wheel spacers, fork legs, rear caliper holder, etc.

I am curious how the bike will handle, since road tests from that time describe the GS1000C
as better handling than with the heavier cast wheels/dual disc/dual caliper.
I do not doubt stopping power is improved with the dual setup, if braking is not satisfactory i'll mount GS1000S
            discs, fork, calipers.

Not really... The single rotor is bigger so if you use the later caliper (rectangular pad not round) the braking difference is not as different as you might expect in my experience.
The Round pad of the earlier caliper has a lot less swept area so that does make a difference.

If it was me.... I would mount a CBR or VX rotor (or use the Suzuki 1000C single rotor), keep the forklegs you have. Shave off the mount on the right leg & use a bracket on your existing left leg to mount up a Tokico Twinpot from a Kawasaki Ninja. You'd get the look you want, save money on your fork legs & have good brakes to boot...

If you want to be really funky you could put a single rotor on the right... that would confuse a few people (and the right Tokico calipers are easier to get as they used them on the Ninja 250 up to 2006).

                hey Salty_Monk,

fitting to see this coming from you, thumbs up for the conversion set you make !
I've followed your thread for a long time, and read it all (some parts several times)
you really provide a nice service to the GSR community.
And i like the amount of information stored in that thread, as well as the pics.
I have already ordered the fork legs, and am looking forward to having this
setup on my C, a standard bike i want to be original for the most part.

I may do as you suggest on another GS1000, i keep checking out AZR's setup, it looks excellent to me.

                20160415_210818.jpg

Have some GS750 wheels with the chromed steel rims and i want those on another GS1000
                of mine.
This bike is faster and i like to push it a bit more than the C and it sure could use those brakes.
Also, those rotors would fit the look that bike has.

But first the Rickman needs it's Lockheed brakes rebuild and next the GS1000C front fork.
Then the GS1000 racer and the GT750 kettle.
Where does the time go ...
