110/90 19 front on 1100G?

Would it be pushing it to go from a 100/90 19 to a 110/90 19 on my 1100G? I guess my reason is not very pressing. I was thinking of correcting my speedo by getting a slightly taller tire and can't find anything without also increasing the width by about .4 of an inch.

That might correct the speedo error, but will slow down the handling (gives it a heavier 'feel' when steering) and might be a bit too close to the fender bolts.

I think the stock size on the 850 might have been 90/90, going to a 100/90 cured the speedo error.

The 1100 uses the same drive and speedo, I can't imagine why it would read wrong.

One other thing to consider: is it off by a certain percentage or a fixed amount? If it's off by a percentage, a tire change might help. Mine is off by a certain amount (3-4 mph), no matter what speed I am going. That happened when I got a new speedo and had to adjust the odometer reading. When I put the needle back on, it was not in the right position, so my actual speed is about 3 mph faster that what is showing. I need to open it up again, remove the needle, rotate it by 3 mph and put it back on.

Thanks. I guess it's not really too much trouble to just mentally subtract about 10% (more like about 7%). I checked the speedo with a GPS an found about a 7% error but maybe the GPS wasn't perfectly accurate. It was an old hand-held unit I had zip-tied to the bars (middle area by the ignition switch.)

The 1100G, not 1100GL, came with a 2.15" front wheel which will support a 110 okay. Most other GS bikes came with a 1.95" wide front so using a 110 on those is pushing things.

I have wheels off an '82 1100G on my 850, so I have one of those 2.15" wheels.

I have a 100 tire on it, but the stock 1.95" (or was it 1.85" ) would not change the rolling radius.

IMO, the handling change is more important than correcting a slightly off speedo. If you really want an accurate readout put an electronic bicycle type speedo on the bars.

I believe the GK came with a 110/90-19 stock (along with beefier 41mm forks and wider wheel). The G and GL came with 100/90-19.

I've tried a 110 on my 850, and it has an immediate, distinct and unpleasant effect on the handling.

I just looked at a few parts fiche. Starting in '82 (with the different style wheel), the shafties had 2.15" wheels at the front. All (from 850-1100) had the same 3.50-19 tire.

The '81 850G and 1000G had 1.85" wheels and the same 3.50-19 tire.

OK, not quite the same, the 850 had a 3.50H19, the 1000 had a 3.50V19.
