    81 GS1100E Front fork rebuild - Metal Slider/Bush pn# 51121-49200 Necessary replace?

    Hello

I have to rebuild my forks, one seal died last weekend.
I have all the parts I need sorted out and the shipping delay is 3 days except for the Metal Slider / Bush which is backordered with no ETA AKA from 3 week to 3 months.
    The bike has ~ 50000km.

Those that have rebuilt them, how often was the Metal Slider / Bush in need of replacing?
I know you have to visually inspect it to have the answer. I'm trying to make an educated guess.

If it's rarely changed I will skip ordering it for this season, inspect it when I rebuild it and change it if needed.
But if the part is changed more times than not I will simply source it else where and pay for expedite.

    Thank you.

I would change it, I did when I did mine. Another supplier, perhaps?

I think Racetech sells some they call "Super Slippery" or something like that that have some special coating or something.

Many times when a fork seal is leaking, it may not be the seal. If there is enough slop in the bushing, the tube can have enough movement to where the seal cant seal it. it seeps past it as it moves from side to side. With that many miles, yes you should replace them. With the forks off, its also a good time time to inspect your steering head bearings. If there not notchy, repack them and tighten accordingly.
