Front wheel plastic bearing retainer removal

I am trying to replace my front wheel bearings. I got my wheel off the forks and axle removed. There is a black plastic bearing retainer (#5 in Clymer manual) that is attached to the hub. How do you remove this without cracking or breaking? My manual doesn't mention it.

Got a picture? I don't recall ever seeing a plastic retainer of any sort on a motorcycle wheel. Also, putting your bike details in your signature will stop people like asking what bike you are talking about.

If you are stuck with the Clymer manual as your best resource, do yourself a favour and download the factory Suzuki service manual here: http://members.dslextreme.com/users/bikecliff/

The bearing is sealed, it may look like there is something plastic in there. Use a long drift punch and (carefully) beat the bearing out, alternating sides. Whatever it is will come out with the bearing..... Use a large socket or a Harbor Freight bearing driver to install the new ones.
