78 GS550 brake line connector

    78 GS550 brake line connector

    I have a 78 GS550. The brake line goes from the master cylinder to a connector on the bottom of the triple tree. Then another line goes from that connector to the caliper. Is this connector really necessary? I'm looking to get a new braided brake line made. Can I just get 1 line made and run it straight from the master cylinder to the caliper? Or do actually need to get 2 lines made and use this connector? Ive really only seen this sort of connector on bikes with dual discs. So it seems sort of redundant to me.

      I had a hutch. But why then did they make this model with 2 lines and a connector? Seems super odd to me.

        Because a lot of the 550s (not necessarily US market) were fitted with twin discs. The single disc models are quite rare over here.

          Actually, the connector eliminates the brake line sawing on the lower triple as the suspension goes up and down, particularly under braking
