100 or 110 tyre on the wider 2.15” wide front rim - 1100G

So should I use a 100 or 110 tyre on the wider 2.15” wide front rim - 1100G?

I’ve used a 110 on that rim before which rode nicely. different bike (had it on the 1000) and tyre type though).

It came with a new 110 fitted that didn’t hold air and on inspection the bead is torn so I’ll be replacing it.....

    on the 1.85” rims I always use a 100.

I’m inclined to go 110 unless someone convinced me differently.

I like a 100 on the front for the easier steering. A 110 for a windjammer equipped bike maybe.

A lot will depend on the actual bike. We have two bikes here with frame-mounted fairings. My son's '80 1000G has an actual Vetter, my '80 850G has a slightly-smaller Pacifico Aero. The 1000 has a 100 tire on the stock 1.85 rim. My 850 also has a 100, but it's mounted on a 2.15 rim from an '82 1100G. Can't tell any difference in handling based on the rim width.

I have experienced the difference between a 110 and a 100 on the same bike, with the same rim, but I don't remember whether it was a 1.85 or a 2.15. The 100 tire felt very neutral, the 110 felt like someone had removed the belt from the power steering pump. It required more effort to turn, slower to respond and had to be held in the turn.

One other point: most of the GSes come with a 90-series front tire and most of them have a speedometer that reads a bit fast. Installing a 100 tire cures virtually all of that. Installing a 110 tire will take the error in the other direction, the speedo will read slower than your actual speed. After you install your new tire, compare your speedo reading to a GPS or an app on your phone to see how far it's off and in which direction.

Bike is an 82 - 1100G - the closest I've ridden to it before is a 1000G (with the 100 Roadrider fitted).

This one is getting a Shinko 712 (got them on the 1000 at the moment and really like them as well as suiting my current mileage (Avon's get too old before they wear out!).

        When I had a 110 on the 1000 previously it was a Shinko 805

I think I'd stick with a 100. Have not tried a Shinko 712, we have used the 230 Tour Masters until recently.

I was looking for something that would not have to be changed during our "Little Ride" this past summer, went with a Dunlop E4 touring tire.
