Shinko 712's
I notice a recent post on shinko 712 reviews but am wondering. My supplier here in Canada does not list a 110/90/17 or 120/90/17 for my 79 GS850 but there is a 130/90/17 and before I ordered just wanted to make sure that a 130 is not too wide? Anyone used a 130/90/17 on the rear of their early gs850? Thanks in advance, did a search and couldn't find a definitive answer.Jonesz

130/90-17 on the rear and 100/90-19 on the front will be PERFECT.

The 130 is the practical maximum for the 850 in 17", as the swingarm is just too narrow at that point for anything else.
I don't think anyone fitted anything other than the 130, unless they wanted to keep it totally stock.
Rather amusingly, the factory tyre of 4.50 equates to a 115 section, which is a bit on the skinny side even back then.---- Dave

I have the same set up as Steve suggests with no problems. The clearance for the 130 at the swingarm is just about as small as you would want it.
I seem to recall someone fitting something which was nominally wider. Don't know what happened there but a lot of the time if you take two 130s from different builders the widths will not be exactly the same.97 R1100R

Annoyingly, there's plenty of space, just not on the left side.---- Dave

Thanks all I will go ahead with the 130 for the rear. Have read good reviews on the shinkos and this will be a low mile bike anyway. Tires will likely get old before worn out. Appreciate the info.Jonesz
