    Circlip plier recommendations

    What brand and / or model of long each circlip pliers do you have and really like for EASY removal of master cylinder circlips?

    EDIT... in response to Eds post about motion pro. I spent 25 bucks on a pair and they didnt close sufficiently to release the circlip...they promptly hit the trash can. SO let me amend my query to say with all exclusion of motion pro products.

    I would rather trust my bike to a "QUACK" that KNOWS how to fix it rather than a book worm that THINKS HE KNOWS how to fix it.

      My Motion Pro works fine
      I opened half a dozen MCs recently
      1978 GS 1000 (since new)
      1979 GS 1000 (The Fridge, superbike replica project)

        Ones I got flexed at the tips and wouldn't squeeze tight enough to release the clip from the groove. Post a pic of your please.

          I can tell you that the Irwin blue/yellow snap-ring pliers w/ the interchangeable tips, sold at the hardware store, that I bought just for doing the MC on my bike, did not reach far enough into the barrel where the circlip lives. I have a precision (no longer precision) pair of needle nose pliers that I was able to hook the tips on just a bit. This enabled me to get them into the holes enough to work the clip open. But it was a major struggle. Next time I need this tool, I'm going to buy the red handled motion pro one.

            Not sure if this helps but I finally bought ones off Amazon that look like the Motion Pros, and they are perfect. I have used on two GS'es (front/rear MC) and one CB750 front. I struggled with various ways for years, and now it's fast and easy, no problems getting the circlip out or back in.

              Dunno, I've rummaged in many a master cylinder and never had a problem with mine.

                A cheap long nose plier, with the tips ground to suit the circlip holes.
                They're stiffer than the orthodox circlip plier legs - and close completely.

                  Main thing is, AVOID the cheapo multi-swappy angle ones...do Not be tempted. The temper and toughness is so important on those little tips, as is the slack of the plier hinge...
