A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Image sizes? anything over 1MB too large to upload?

To answer my own question: I was using microsoft photos to resize images, rather than MS Paint. Somehow it was maintaining pixel size while reducing quality, rather than reducing the pixels/smaller photo. Using MS Paint I was able to resize and upload (I used the "attach files" at the bottom...

    "rehoming" a 1981 GS850G $1600 Central Indiana

See my other thread in "GS Stories" where I picked this bike up from @wazz and have spent the winter/spring getting it back up and running and some cosmetics tidied up with the help of some spares from @bwringer. Long story short, I'm realizing I just lack the bandwidth for vintage bike...

Image sizes? anything over 1MB too large to upload?

Has anyone else been having issues with this? Not too long ago, I swear the limit on .jpgs was something close to 2MB or a bit less. Now it seems to be down to 1MB or so?

Dyna S vs. Chyna S ignition

On the topic of Chinesium ignition components, does anyone have any experience with the cheap black coil and wire/plug cap kits on ebay (Cheap Ebay GS coil kit)? They're listed in the range of $30-60ish. I've got a good set of Dyna plug wires to use, mostly interested in hearing feeback on the...

    Oil Filter Cover

I think that round feature in the casting is for the option to tap the filter cover for a drain plug? Maybe I'm making things up but I want to say I've seen those filter covers with the drain plug before.

Here's also a random tidbit to tuck away in case you happen to run into something similar: I fixed up a similarily clean low mile '81 GS650G that had sat for a long time. I chased my tail for *days* trying to figure out a high speed (45mph+) bog/lean condition. it ended up being the OE...

anyone go for a ride today? Pics?

It's not cropping the photo that is most effective but a "resize" to get the file size below whatever limit (something in the range of 2.5mb as I recall?)

Save the Date: 2026 Brown County Indiana Rally - June 11-14, 2026

I'll echo what Brian said, as someone who has only attended one of these before. The most laid back "run what you brung, ride how/where/when you want" gathering I've been to, with a great crowd of easy going folks. The Rosemount motel back parking lot is optimally arranged for hanging out in...

Definitely sounds like you're mostly just a thorough carb cleaning away from having a great bike! Aside from those little rubber plugs over the pilot jets (I *think* an 83 would have those but maybe not?) and maybe some float valve o-rings you might get away with not needing to replace any...

    First Road Crash

Yikes glad that a) you and b) the bike are ok! I had my first get-off back in 2023 on my previous Bandit on a back road in the Georgia mountains, a perfect little gravel trap on a blind corner. As soon as I spotted it I was already going down. Got off with a similarly skinned knee (bought...

I'll second partshark as my go-to for OEM parts. Which suzuki does a commendable job of still offering for many components. What's going on with the 650?

Back in the GS fold (a familiar '81 850G)

A long delayed update on the bike. I just underestimated how little time I have right now for tinkering with a baby, doubly so as we got into the spring and my son's sports started up, home projects, etc. But here's how she sits now: with a big thanks to @bwringer for hooking me up with a...

Dyna S vs. Chyna S ignition

I will chime in as well, as someone who just installed one of these Chinese Dyna knock offs. Yes, I also had to adjust the plate to the extreme of the slots, and in fact one of the three slots wasn't cut far enough (need to file it some, just left the one screw out for now). My even bigger...

#3 cylinder pipe cold and oil leaking from #3 cylinder

A high likelihood of a stuck float valve dumping gas into the cylinder, do you get anything coming out of the airbox drain as well by any chance? Does the wet plug smell gassy?
