    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    The 1100GL has a taller 5th gear than the regular G, for lower rpms on the road. The 1983 final drive assembly is taller still, for the ultimate in low rpm crusing.

    Make that an EX650. 5/8" bore. The 500 would (likely) be 14mm, which is for a single disc.

    Hey Tom, this good info. As I understand it, 2-wire is a one-phase charging system. It's good to hear that the SH775 works with both three-phase and single-phase systems.

    What's up with tires?

    Kawasaki used 120/90-18 rear tires on a lot of the KZ family bikes, all running a 2.15" rear wheel. Some will say the wheel is too narrow for this size tire, but Kawasaki obviously disagreed. I've been running the same size on my KZ with fine results.

    There are several different GS bikes using the leverless petcock. Partzilla will provide specifics. The 1979 GS1000L is NOT one such bike, though, so as you say, your tank must not be original.

    Partzilla has that functionality; that's how I can confirm that all chain drive 1000's use the same rear airbox. They are the only model using that part also.

    The rear airbox is shared with the various different chain drive GS1000 model bikes. One should show up eventually, either here or on eBay. In the meantime, you could adapt one large pod to attach to the backside of the front airbox assembly. This would be better than running pods outright...

    Your bike has CV carbs. OP, and Zed's comments are related to the mechanical slide VM type carbs. CV masks ham fisted throttle application.
