All new forum registrations must be activated via email before you have full access to the forum.

A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Technically, they're both GSes. And a wrenching session is certainly not anything that we haven't done before. .

#3 cylinder pipe cold and oil leaking from #3 cylinder

That is correct. That is why the "X" shims exist, so you only move half-way through the range. Chuck, be careful throwing numbers without specifying units. You are correct, one shim will change the gap by 0.002, but that is INCHES. All previous mentions of sizes have been one shim size...

#3 cylinder pipe cold and oil leaking from #3 cylinder

Shoot for "in the range of 0.03-0.08mm", but keep in mind that if you change a shim that has 0.03-0.05 clearance, it will jump to 0.08-0.10. Although slightly above "the range", it works out quite well. .

    First Road Crash

Good to hear that you're OK. Also good that is was not the GS. In post #1 you say "could feel my left knee and helmet grinding on the road". In post #5 you say "My armored Joe Rocket jacket and my helmet seem undamaged." The two statements are at odds with each other. Look the helmet...

#3 cylinder pipe cold and oil leaking from #3 cylinder

The problem with trying to set them all to 0.08mm is that you will need a selection of "X" shims, as well a the standard ones. Shims come in increments of 0.05mm, so technically, you don't change shims until they get below 0.03mm, then change the shim to get it to 0.08mm. The "X" shims are...

The NEW forum software is here!

On other forums I visit, when the Original Poster (OP) replies somewhat later in the thread, there is some sort of indicator to remind others that it is the OP responding. Is that available here? .

    Found a bug

Hey, Frank. Yeah, it's been a while. There was something about the last version and the network nannies at work that did not play well together. When I got home, I had other thing going, so not much time for GSR. :( (I could read, but could not respond at work.) New forum software seems to be...

    Is it a Z or D

The ignitor is different between the '82 Z and the '83 D. The connectors at the right side of the block and the ignitor itself will be slightly different (number of pins). Discovered that back in 2018 when we were attempting a cross-country trip. Mrs. Steve's ignitor on her '82 850L failed...

[1982 GS750T] Pilot Screw Adjustment and Vacuum Sync Confusion...

I prefer a sligtly modified sequence. Set mixture screws between 2 and 2 1/2 turns out from LIGHTLY seated Warm the bike Do the carb sync Fine tune the mixtures. Since turning the mixture screws will temporarily reduce the power from that cylinder, it's good to start with all cylinders pulling...

I have visited those rooms and can tell you they are quite comfortable. :encouragement: IF you happen to be needing a 'couch' in southwest oHIo, we don't have a couch worth sleeping on, we will offer the guest room with a king-size bed. .

    Rear wheel swap

As Salty Monk says, it's likely possible. I put a 16" rear on my 850 and had to add (or move) a spacer or two. Easy enough if you have access to some thick washers with large holes. .

    Cluster lighting bulbs

If you were charging at 18 volts, there is a pretty good chance the bulbs are burned out. Spray some WD-40 around the base of the bulbs, wiggle them vigorously several times, let them sit overnight, repeat a couple of times. Eventually something is going to give. .

    Fuel Gauge questions

I will agree with those that say your 6.82 volts is "normal", as there is a 7v regulator in the gauge. Well, I presume it's in the gauge, as I have never seen a separate device. At the 2-wire connector under the tank, if you short the bike side terminals, it should put the gauge to FULL. If...
