A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    GS550L mirror blur over 70mph

Every Suzuki street model in the 70s had those dampeners, including my old TS250 Enduro bike.

GS850G torque setting for drive shaft re-attachment

To get proper torque on those nuts: put the torque wrench on the nut, tighten until it squeaks, then put a 8-foot pipe on the end and jump on it until one of 2 things happens. 1) the bolt shears off, or 2) the whole rig falls over with a loud clatter, causing lots of damage to the paintwork and...

    Epic fails

Man, that reminds me of the Gumball Rally, where "The Mad Hungarian" rode a Kawa triple from coast to coast on the rear wheel. (Hey it's just a movie.)

    OK what u think 1981 GS850G

I would say that's a very good buy. It's worth more than that as parts, even if it doesn't run. The GS850 is easy to work on, and it should be able to be got running fairly easily. It looks like a keeper to me, with only the smashed turn signal to be fixed (That happens when theyr'e dropped...

What are the most beautiful GS models? Aesthetic questions

Strictly my opinion, but,,,,,,,,,,,I always liked the looks of my 81 GS11E. None of the ones following had the same appeal. The best-looking GS of all (IMHO) was the first,: yes, it was the 76 GS750 that I always liked the best. Feel free to disagree, as long as you acknowledge that I'm right.

1981 GS1100 EX Help with some questions

The black paint is metalflake, I had one of those new and liked the black metalflake paint, but it really only shows up in bright sunlight.

    Is it worth it?

just thought of this: the gas cap might not be venting.

    Is it worth it?

one possibility: rusty tank and/or dirty gas. either will clog the petcock and produce the symptoms you describe. if the tank and fuel are clean then do the carbs. you still might have to replace the petcock but that can wait till the carbs are good. Oh and yes, for $450 that bike is a steal...

1980 GS1100 (Square headlight) clutch never fully disengages

As I reread this again, the one thought that keeps popping into my head is: the clutch cable is stretching. Now maybe it's not a problem with the cable, but that would be the easiest thing\ to fix and the cheapest Putting a new clutch cable on would increase your peace of mind, and if thats...

    Bike ID Required

Hmmm.........hadn't thought of a 650. It could be. I couldn't tell if the rear brake is disc or drum.......drum brake on rear is likely a 550. Need to check the numbers on the engine. GS55, GS65, GS75, etc. That ought be a fun project, enjoy yerself with it.

    Bike ID Required

An early 550 would have a single disc up front. so it's a 750, or a Frankenbike (built up from whatever he had laying around} Don't think it's a 1000 because the exhaust pipes would be larger. Just guessing. But it's a Suzuki, Thta's all I can say for sure, with just the one pic to go by.

    Bike ID Required

Let's see...........It's pre '80 (the brakes are not slotted) The front fender is from something else. 4 into1 exhaust (Not stock.) 2v per cylinder. Are those CV carbs? (Pre '80 bike should have pre '80- carbs.) Non stock handlebar. Dunno what that thing is where the tailpiece goes. somewhere on...

    My new bike!

Don't let go of those case-savers and the rack. Those would be hard to find today. If you decide to part with them somebody here will snap them up in a heartbeat.

    Road trip with a trailer

Oh geeze, that's my old Suzy, best damn bike I ever owned. Bought it new in '81, and rode the well oughta it till I stuck it in the side of a Chrysler in"86.Take care of that, and always have it pointed where you intend to go before you pull the trigger.
