  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Pic of the week game

My story (this isn’t meant to sway the voting) started October 5 1981 when a Chrysler Newport ran me over on my RD400G (fun bike). I spent the next several months researching the new middleweights, Seca 550, Kawasaki GPZ550, Yamaha RD350LC (which I bought after the Vision and still have). I picked the GPZ and put a $100 deposit on one. In February the 550 Vision arrived and I thought it was the greatest looking machine ever and had to have it. I lost the deposit on the Kawasaki and paid a lot more money to have the Vision. Maybe you know how that turned out? Frame made from a lawn chair, the dreaded Vision Stumble. The electrical problems. I bought it for $3400 and sold it for $1200 one year later as they were heavily discounted in 1983. I then bought my ‘83 GS750E which was so much better and faster it was crazy! I loved that bike and is why I joined here.
It wasn’t all bad, the Ladies Loved the Vision.

Your not alone for the love for the 550 Vision. I never did own one, but I remember when they come out... My junior/senior year in high-school.
By this time, I owned the basement of our house. I had posters, magazine pictures all over the walls! I was a big Yamaha fan!
I thought the 550 Vision looked so modern... And it did!

maybe because it was a nice looking, v-twin, water cooled, shaft drive...

was also going to say, maybe because you didnt see the 1982 magazine artical (Cycle? Cycle World? Motorcyclist?) "Middle Weight Comparison" (or something like that), that I saw about then and got me to look at a new 82 GS650G. (Which I did buy and had for 20some years.)
But now I see you said "Febuary 1982", and I suspect the artical was later spring 82, I got the 650G in late August 82.

yesterday, I was unsecsesfull in trying to find something of that artical (I can still recall what the cover picture looked like) to see if it included the Vision.

Dang it, hard again this week cause I can closely relate to a few of these regret entries... But voting for steve murdoch. Like him, a bunch of years ago, I too had a blur "78" GS1000C, like him I owned it twice and like him sold it twice. Probably regret selling it more today than ever before.

Was more all around general purpose comparison (less race performance based). Had the 650G (not Kat).
THe artical I recalled, Cover photo was a street scene, IfIRecallProperly, showed the bikes parked around a railroad crossing.
The artical really praised the zuki shaft drive.

Bob baatfam and Trevor have some nice bike photo. Sharp, nicley posed.
Bobs pic and I see that cylinder sticking out the side (and I know is another on other side) and the roundel, and I can hear him saying the engine was uninspiring.


But Rich82, and intersting photo, and I can see a bit of "ah, maybe I should not have done that....."

Saturday Morning,

I'll do a count.

RobS 4 , Steve Murdoch 2 , Rich82 2.

Rob and his compact 883 have the honor and the duty this week. That must hve been quite an experince to see the smashed bike and have no recollection of what occured, but only see the evidence (In my case, I am not sure what I actaully recall verse what I surmissed).
 
I had typed out my vote last night and evidently fell asleep before hitting the Post Reply button. Was for Rob so no matter. Congrats. What’s next?
