A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    Cheap, but good, derusting sauce

Getting ready to mix a batch of this stuff. @Nessism ,Ed did you use a surfactant like dish soap to help break surface tension? if so how much? The video just says to experiment with it. I mixed a small batch a while back and it seemed to work ok without dish soap, but plan to mix a few gallons...

    Reviving an 82 GS1100GK

I took the tank to Sherwin Williams and got the color matched. They loaded the paint into two rattle cans. This will be a first for me. Have painted lots of things but no automotive type jobs. I decided to keep it as simple as possible and go with a single, solid color on the tank.

    Speedometer Calibration?

For an 850? I've been underestimating it then. That was all it would give in 4th and I had to back it down. I think 113 is as fast as I've had it in 5th.

    Speedometer Calibration?

Thanks for posting this. Either mine is acting wonky or I actually hit 110 mph in 4th gear yesterday.

    Pic of the week game

Trying to get to the top of the mountain before the sun. 20171017_072505 by Roger, on Flickr I instantly regretted getting an adventure bike that weighed four times what I do. It took everything I had to get it upright.

    Reviving an 82 GS1100GK

Spent some time today working out gouges in the case covers. I tried hard not to make flat spots or lose the profile of the cover. Working out scratches with a sisal wheel now. 20241007_151137 by Roger, on Flickr 20260815_170050 by Roger, on Flickr If anyone has a resource for engine case...

    Pic of the week game

If I had a pic of my first 850 at my first house with my first wife, that would be perfect. (Un?)Fortunately it was hung on a dart board, perforated, shredded, and burned a long time ago. LOL Surely can scare up another pic though...

Gradually gets harder to start and conks out after 8 miles ish

Maybe it's already been mentioned, but check that your grounds have good contact with bare metal, like the back of the crank case. Posplayer had a write-up on a single point ground... I think... anyway, a corroded ground will prevent the R/R from functioning. Speaking of not functioning, my...

    Fuse box replacement

Hey Scott. I just replied too a post in your other thread. So it's a '79 850? Well, I happened to have a (rather crusty) fuse panel from one. Hope this helps. 20260813_111844 by Roger, on Flickr 20260813_111856 by Roger, on Flickr Since your R/R is already under the battery, you don't have...

    Looking for a picture

@Scotto58 Not sure what bike you have, but on some models the plate that holds the stock R/R next to the battery makes a good spot for a few relays. Just relocate the R/R to the bottom of the battery tray. Also, while relocating stuff, that's a good time to toss the stock unit in the trash and...

    2026 August Roger Burque 850G

Hey, Ben. Those case guards are pretty gouged up though haha. It's had a few oops's. The Vetter stuff is amazingly protective of it's owner, so that helped too. Hope all is well with you. Don't look too closely haha. I wish I had caught things sooner. Boots, airbox, carbs, all sorted within the...

    2026 August Roger Burque 850G

Thank you, Dave. What an honor it is to see my 850 as the BOTM! It was a real treat to meet up and ride with you. The greeting we recieved by forum longtimers, fellowship at The Rosemount and Jay's hospitality has left a lasting impression on us. Someday we'll make another trek to that neck of...

    Reviving an 82 GS1100GK

Thanks, Larry. It's been so blasted hot, I'll bet wrapping the tank in a black trashbag and leaving it on the seat of my truck for a day would blister up the paint like a heat gun. LOL I've been looking through posts from @chuck hahn getting ideas and that grilling approach sounds good to me...

    Reviving an 82 GS1100GK

I'm getting time here and there to focus on the GK, finally! Ordered a few things from ebay and Cycle-Re-cycle. Not to mention other bits here and there that have waited patiently for me. Also grabbed a 2lb package of citric acid to de-rust the tank. Hoping the Por-15 has not expired sitting on...

    Pic of the week game

I took pics at a few different angles and repositioned the bike two or three times. Finally decided that standing behind the monkey holding the camera/phone way above my head was the best approach. I snapped several pics before getting the shot I wanted. That's all, nothing too tricky. That is...

    Pic of the week game

So, as it turns that's not a one of a kind spark plug assemblage piece. This artist has tons of recycled metal stuff. That location near downtown albuquerque has life size Transformers and Predator pieces too. The grandkids love those things. Voting for Carter Turk.

    Rear rotor for '79 GS850G

Looks like I have a set of solid front rotors, not the rear one. If you need those you're welcome to them. The wheel was behind a bunch of stuff which I finally got around to moving.
