A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    non-running 1999 Harley Sportster 1200

I know there's a few of you with Harley experience so thought I'd ask here. Got a neighbor friend who recently inherited a 1999 1200 Sportster that won't start. It has sat for a number of years. According to him it turns over fine, sounds like it wants to start but never catches. Sounds to me...

    Which Bike Would You Choose?

Congrats on the bike!! If they haven't been done already, you should consider a better seat, different windscreen, and most importantly, better suspension. Both the front and rear are too soft, especially for two-up.

anyone go for a ride today? Pics?

Drive the Tacoma and make sure the tranny doesn't drive you nuts. I've got a '16 and love everything about the truck except the transmission. Which I hate.

Until you go to work on it. :)

    Which Bike Would You Choose?

I'm a big V-Strom fan. Bought a new '07 650, still have it, and love it. Wonderfully balanced, fun bike to ride. But, if 2-up was a major part of my riding I'd go with the 1000. Of the two you mention, the 2nd is the much better deal in my opinion. On the Bandit, I've ridden them and they just...

UK to Greece (Athens) and o to islands

Athens is insane, for sure. Pretty much the outer limit of what I’m willing to drive in.

UK to Greece (Athens) and o to islands

Yeah, but Britain has decided that it’s not part of Europe. So my statement stands. :)

UK to Greece (Athens) and o to islands

Many of those countries are in the Schengen Area (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schengen_Area) and there are no border checks at all. You just drive on through, only a sign to mark the border. (and maybe a change in speed limits.) For the Balkan countries you'd have to check to see if a visa is...

ISO Pictures or "embossed numbering" order on lower crankcase 1980 GS850 GL Model T

Really worth emphasizing this. Small diameter steel bolt/aluminum case threads/torque wrench can be a recipe for disaster.

41mm or 39mm front end choice...

It will if the fork length is different. Or more correctly, if the distance from the bottom of the lower triple to the center of the axle is different. If, as I suspect, the Bandit forks are shorter you’ll end up with less rake. The other big variable is triple clamp offset, which directly...

41mm or 39mm front end choice...

the stock GK springs won’t be too stiff.

    Police over-reach?

Damn dude, that's a lot of spleen vented over a bunch of unsubstantiated assumptions...sometime in the past a guy on a sport bike beat you up and take away your birthday??

    '80 GS1000G Rear suspension?

Really good shocks cost north of $800 a set. Decent ones are least half that. Look at the price of the one’s you linked to and draw your own conclusions.

    New helmet

Ouch, that’s going to leave a smoking hole in race budget. My last really bad crash, they had to cut the leathers off, and the Cooley-replica Arai was toast. :( Racing’s expensive, especially if you do it wrong. :)

    New helmet

Arai’s are great, except for their wretched shield change mechanism, which I’ve never been able to get the hang of. :( But if you have an “Aria head” there really isn’t any substitute. I do miss my racing days, when the local Tucker Rocky rep would give me 20% off of dealer cost on them for one a...

    Should I be worried?

Yeah, worn dogs and/or slightly bent shift forks. It's typically 2nd gear, some bikes are more prone to it than others. Anybody who ever raced an EX500 either had it or dreaded the day when they would.

    My new toy, 1996 CBR900rr

I'm not doubting you, and as I said I have no experience with that bike so I don't know what works on it. I was just trying to explain why the rear might have been raised up in the first place.

    My new toy, 1996 CBR900rr

At least for track use, most bikes benefit from some combination of a raised rear and lowered front. But there are some exceptions. First gen R6 you needed to leave the rear height stock and raise the front a few mm's. Took a little while for people to realize the the standard changes where...

    My new toy, 1996 CBR900rr

Which, unfortunately, are nothing like modern sport tires. I started racing back in '98 on an EX500, and even then the 16" tires available were woefully antiquated compared to what was available in 17". 20+ years later the gap is much bigger.
