A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

    Luggage Rack Mounting Points

Here you go Redman . I repaired the front mounts on the rack and re-installed it. I ordered some of the factory 3-lobed brackets for the rear mount points. For now, the rack is fine as-is, but I can't put anything heavy on it for fear of damaging the front mount points again. Once I get...

Luggage Frame Brackets - 82 GK

Before I go and oder a set of these from GB, I figured I'd check here and see if anyone has a set they'd be willing to part with. This is part #13 in the diagram below. It's the bracket that secures the truck rack to the frame on an 82 GS1100 GK.

    Luggage Rack Mounting Points

Flat stock is what I was planning to use. That was my original idea when I first mounted the rack. But I didn't do it, and I nearly broke the shock mount tabs because there wasn't enough support. I bought the bike without all of the luggage and fairings so I don't have any of the original...

    Luggage Rack Mounting Points

Ah, so this is where the rear upper rack mounts to the frame, via the three-lobed bracket. That's what I was looking for. This makes sense as the placement should provide the extra support needed for the weight of the trunk and cargo. I'll need to either get two of those brackets, or...

    Luggage Rack Mounting Points

Interesting. I don't have any downward facing lugs on the rear of the frame, but I do have an outward facing one on either side. Maybe we're talking about the same thing. I'd previously considered fabricating a strap, just like what you described, to support the back half of the rack to the...

    Luggage Rack Mounting Points

82 GS1100GK. Completely de-k'd, so I don't have any of the original luggage hardware. I did procure an OE luggage rack but I think I'm missing some mounting hardware. It look like the front mounting points have tangs that slide onto the upper shock mounts. And there's a bolt hole about 6"...

    GS550 BS32 carburetor vent lines

I will add that I also used to route mine over and behind the airbox, which I believe is the correct routing. However... In certain circumstances, high crosswinds, at highway speeds, can blow right into the space under the carbs and get "scooped" up behind the airbox. Because the vent tubes...

    82 650L #2 Cyl Inop (Can’t find answer)

When my petcock failed and flooded the #2 cylinder like Big T is stating, it still fired. It just smelled like gas all the time and quickly fouled out the plug. I would clean the plug and it would run great for a little while until it fouled again. I'd be inclined to believe the pilot jet is...

    Wireless Electric Guitar Question

I've used a wireless transmitter by Line 6 before, which operated at 2.4G, and I didn't have any issues with wifi interference. You should be good with either one. I've only used the one by Line 6 so I don't know about the one you have posted.

    GK Luggage Rack?

miked This is the only one I have currently. Right after this trip I had to take it off. Because of the way I had it mounted and the poor conditions of the roads that day, I ended up bending the "slots" on the front of it where it connects to the shock mount. There, and one bolt a little...

    GK Luggage Rack?

Thanks. I got the rack from XRRRX. Just the trunk rack. It was in excellent shape.

Same. I’ve only seen one other one in the wild. A 79 GS1000. Otherwise, nada.

    Long and Short Plug Boots

rphillips After a closer inspection, that #2 plug wire does appear to be cut short, just as you mentioned. Do you know of any resources or guides for how to replace the wires? I searched the forum and didn't come up with anything. Im pretty sure the coils are stock and the wires are "glued" in...

    Long trips anyone?

Update.. I did 245 miles yesterday. Not a single issue, other than my ass hurting by the end of the trip! While inspecting the bike trying to figure out what the status is on the r/r, I did see a few questionable grounds on the electronics holder tray thing. So I'm going to take the...

I had this exact thought. Trying to find one locally as the ride is in two days. No luck yet.

    Long trips anyone?

Lol! I guess that is always the question! After reading the stator papers, these voltages are right in spec. The only unknown here is exactly what kind of r/r it is. I may take it off just to get the info off of it. And go through the connections to make sure they're all clean. If nothing...

    Long trips anyone?

Rich82GS750TZ , or anyone else that might know.. After further inspection, I DO think the PO may have replace the r/r. The one that's on there now appears to be slightly larger than the stock one. Also it has 5 wires coming out of it. 3 yellow, 1 black, and 1 red. Also, all of these wires go...

    Long trips anyone?

Understood. Thanks for the advice! I don't want to get 3 hrs away from home and end up stranded! I looked under the battery, and while I can't be 100% sure it's original, it sure looks like it is. I think I'll just go ahead and replace it before taking any longer trips.
