A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    vtr 1000f front end swap

I believe that the "L" has more rake only because the forks are longer. Give that you're now running a 17" front wheel, and likely shorter forks, you probably have less rake than stock, not more. That said, what matters is trail, not rake. What is the offset difference between your old triples...

Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 - Thoughts?

There is the Speed 400 with a shorter seat, so they do have most of the market covered.

Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 - Thoughts?

Hmmm, I get different out of that, not better. :) Slower steering, worse brakes, heavier on the minus side. Taller could be better or worse, depending. For dirt roads the Scrambler ought to be a skosh better, but the Speed seemed to do about as well in the India video. Either one should be a...

Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 - Thoughts?

Better in what way? :indecisiveness: The Scrambler has the 19" front wheel, and a smidgen more suspension travel, but other than that I thought they were the same.

Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 - Thoughts?

True, a dirt bike ought to be able to handle falling over. :) The stock steel tank is the only thing I'd worry about. I've got a Clark plastic 4 gallon tank on the DR-Z400, hit the ground many times without damage. I use a cutoff crutch for that purpose, same idea. Works ok in pinch, but not...

Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 - Thoughts?

As do I. Great stuff. I hear ya on the various tradeoffs. On the weight, keep in mind that the Himalayan already has a centerstand and crash bars. Another big plus is the availability of spoked, tubeless wheels. Just seems like an interesting bike, really in it's own niche as a lightweight all...

Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 - Thoughts?

Have you looked at the new RE Himalayan? Vast improvement over the current version. As with the Triumph, there's a huge thread over on Adventure Rider. Also about a billion really cool videos on YouTube, RE has done a phenomenal promotional job with this bike.

Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 - Thoughts?

I'm thinking of waiting until next fall. Ought to be some pristine, low mileage used ones available, without all the BS add-on fees. I see you found the AdvRider forum. :)

Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 - Thoughts?

LOL, I've always referred to that as "Clearing it with corporate" :) Those are sweet looking and interesting bikes, I'm thinking about the Speed 400 myself. I assume you've seen this video? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6igdCnYjBt4 If you're on the Adventure Rider forum there's a big thread...

When do you expect ev bikes to become practical road bikes.

I would take those numbers with a grain of salt. It sounds like they are including all the EV R&D they've done in the "cost" of each vehicle. Since they haven't sold a bunch of EVs yet, each one gets assigned a large R&D number. If you did the same sort of accounting for the Model T I'm sure...

When do you expect ev bikes to become practical road bikes.

I'm guessing that the percentage of the population that would seriously consider a DIY car engine swap is in the 1-2% range.

Spoiler Alert: MotoGP (or any other race) thread for immediate disscussion of races.

I'll be amazed if he doesn't win the championship.

When do you expect ev bikes to become practical road bikes.

$849 Taiwanese dollars. About $28 USD. I don't think battery swapping will ever take off for cars or regular, full size motorcycles, but for scooters, e-bicycles and small motorcycles it makes some sense.

When do you expect ev bikes to become practical road bikes.

And I'm sure some old curmudgeons said anything with that new fangled hand clutch/foot shift system wasn't a real motorcycle, and they sure weren't going to ride one!! :)

Need info on 1985 GS700E front fork spings

Tube size is 37mm, Race-Tech doesn't have a listing for them (although they do have the correct size for other bikes with 37mm tubes) but Sonic Springs does. http://sonicsprings.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=31_211&osCsid=bscco58i1334r3i3ma8o51d6a30e6atl Don't know the stock spring rate, but it...

I rode a Zero last year. CoG didn't feel much different than an ICE bike. It was a fun ride though. :)

You are now at 2!!! :) Seriously, that was a good video. I've been looking at one of those, so a real-world, first time using it video is very helpful.
