A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Scrapped the video because the idle setting causes a stall after warm up and the hanging throttle has come back. Arggghhh.

May have pulled this off. Started with spot painting with open paper loops surrounding the repair area to avoid sharp lines. Removed the paper and tape and used spot blender on the transitions. Waited about 30 minutes, then a light coat of Spraymax clear. Let it flash then a heavy coat of clear...

Jdub goes there 1981 650e rebuild

I have checked ebay from time to time looking for parts that were missing or needed replacement. If i checked back enough it seemed like they would eventually show up. Looks like it happened again. Thanks for the heads up. The only thing I still haven't found is the front master cylinder...

Jdub goes there 1981 650e rebuild

The one awkward thing about the tail section is there is a huge gap around the tail light and I know there was a rubber piece that I think was glued in. Seeing how wide the gap is, it's hard to imagine how how thick this piece must have been to seal it and stay in place. Probably why I dont have...

    Painting Bike parts

first attempt failed and was a shame since the paint match was absolutely perfect and undetectable. However I had a hideous low spot that while small, was very noticeable. Now the area to blend area is quite a bit larger and have one more try before a total redo. Maybe will try today. Orange...

Jdub goes there 1981 650e rebuild

Thanks! Ah, so you were a Suzuki dealer back in the day? So you would have had an eye for style. Nothing special about the tail section, but I've seen a few others that look fairly similar. The 750 had a very similar rear cowl, but the tail light wasnt recessed. What would be an example of a...

Another photo. Unfortunately it isn't riding season here. Been between 112?-118?F the last couple of weeks and it doesnt really cool down. Most I've done is start it up and ride around the neighborhood a few times.

Jdub goes there 1981 650e rebuild

About two years ago was trying to sell it during a garage clean up. Sent this picture to a potential buyer (free) and never heard from him. That pissed me off and I embarked on this journey with very little knowledge.

Have had the cosmetic portion completed for a couple of weeks now and just did some polishing. I plan on making a short video detailing the resto., but here is a shot of my stock restoration.

    Painting Bike parts

Yep, that sounds like good advice. Would you spray the base over the added primer after it flashes or let it dry and feather sand for a smooth transition before base and clear? I was thinking I should spray the base out to the front edges and close to the curves using open loop tape masking to...

    Painting Bike parts

The first 2-1/2 coats of clear have been wet sanded with 600 and further dulled and smoothed with gray scotch. I've already applied the decals on one side so dropping another coat of base is not an economical option. I really need to find a way to repair this. The only positive is this area is...

    Painting Bike parts

Unfortunately, I have had a defect for every piece I've painted, and no exception for the tank. Had a paint run on the other side, which will require me to do a blend of both base and clear. Already did a blend on one of the side covers an ended up with two tone silver. This is what separates a...

I take it that the filter assembly is intact and just the foam piece is shot. You can get a uni filter replacement on amazon.

Thanks, thats how i was leaning. I have some fast dry bondo filler left over from touching up my fender, so I'll need to check if it is recommended for a ding this size.

    Painting Bike parts

Since I kept getting better at painting with each piece, I decided to try painting my original fuel tank even though I have an NOS replacement. It's in great condition internally and prepped for epoxy primer, except for a decision on what to do with this ding. Wondering if this is too large to...

Thanks! Nice to see you check in Kiwi. Just about ready to wrap this project up and do a final reveal video. Just one side cover to go. Actually enjoying painting and getting better with each piece. Got lucky with color match as well.
