A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I watched this last week, good. I was more interested in identifying his bike. I think it's a Honda CX500 Deluxe.

    GS1000 "retromod" build questions

Sounds appealing to me, mostly getting 17" wheels with up to date radial tires on. I had a low side on my 82 1100G, mostly because I was used to leaning my track bike with sticky 120/70-17R tires. I would prefer modifying a box steel swing arm to use double shock mounts, instead of a doing a...

GS850G Won't Start, Electrical Issue, No Spark

I'm understanding Chucks test procedure. My Clymer manual test is the same but said in different words. Take plugs 3 & 4 out but connected to coil wires, rest them against the engine so they're grounded so if they spark you can see it. Turn on the bike, but don't touch the starter button. Your...

what did you wrench on today??

Decided to put the case guards back on, after learning the hard way. I had a low side crash and damaged the left side case in 2023. Tried soldering a patch but it leaked, then I added another sealer to the inside and that worked, but the case was ugly. So lucky to find a clean case on ebay this...

anyone go for a ride today? Pics?

I almost bought a 79 CB750F. Decided it was too much like my GS1100G, plus my house needs a new roof. Really nice bike.

    Weak idle until hot

This seems normal to me, old air cooled bikes need to be fully warmed up before idling well, they're analog. It takes progressively longer as the weather gets colder. PS: In the manual for the same vintage Honda CB750F the use of a thinner oil in winter is recommended. PPS: As for clutch drag...

Psyching myself up for the top end - any veteran eyes up to read borescope pictures?

Have you looked down the intake ports at the valve tops? 1st on you list should be a valve job including: new stem seals, replace valves with corroded edges, all lapped in and new springs.

    Looking good! New GSX 8tt

I disagree because of the style factor. The GSX-8s has the same performance and lower price, but it looks like an crayfish.

I was also thinking it resembles the 82 GPz 550 & 750 more than the GS1000S.

    Starter Cluch repair, problems…

After taking the flywheel off and disassembly, the starter clutch was rather damaged but looked repairable, just replace the bolts, springs and pushers. Bummer, one of the pushers would not come out of it's hole. I got lucky and found a left side cover with a new stator, including a flywheel &...

I am looking for some help with my '83 GS1100E fork setup using emulators

I've been following your posts on this bike. You initially went all the way into a track setup, IMO. Sharp initial shock, well that's what you get on bad pavement. You might try swapping in your OEM progressive rate springs with the emulators to get another perspective. Then maybe buy new...

Oil get on the track from the blown engine? Just wondering how the track crew dealt with it. Looks like FUN! I've been recovering from hernia surgery, not going on track again until after July 4th.
