A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    GS1000 head removal

Remove all the plugs and stick a probe camera down the spark plug hole and have someone turn the engine over, you should be able to see if there's a problem by doing that. If you don't have one already they are quite reasonable to buy and you will find other uses for them once you have one...

    gs550e CV carb float heights

I had a very similar symptom on my GS650E, the problem resolved itself after replacing a suspect looking spark plug cap and cleaning up the cable ends by cutting off about 1/4" and replacing all the resistors. BTW when you start the bike from cold do all the exhaust pipes warm up evenly or do...

    Engine casing paint

I have also painted many engines with VHT SP127, I've also used Cast Aluminum SP 735 which is very close to the OEM colour as well, as we couldn't buy VHT SP127 in Canada at the time, this engine below has the SP735. This what you can expect with some good prep. I've had a carb overflow on...

    Engine casing paint

I second that, VHT SP127 Universal Aluminum paint is excellent, once painted you can cure it by running the engine and doing a few heat cycles. https://www.ebay.com/p/1122874889 Good luck.

    wes cooley bike - carbs

Hey Marc, thanks for the VIN's, I do have one of your bikes already in the registry, but the other one 535252 is the highest VIN I got so far. The "T" model year (1980) started at VIN 528511 so your bike is the 6,741 GS1000 produced, (which includes ET's as they used the "53" prefix as well)...

    wes cooley bike - carbs

Hello Met999, welcome to the GS Forum, if you could provide me with you VIN I can add it to the registry and possibly shed some light on the carb situation. Australia sold the 1980 GS1000S well into 1981 and was dipping into the parts bins to build them, so we see a few interesting variations...
