DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

anyone go for a ride today? Pics?

Yup, I love that road for some reason, just riding along an imaginary line, even though it's basically dead straight for 10KM. As soon as I saw those new markers I tried to find one that had flat ground to park on and it was a bonus to have Mount Baker in the background. David

Recommendations for small, portable air pump?

I have the motopumps unit and it's fantastic. It has the 2 ports so you can take the pressure of the tire without removing the hose connection, and the hose connection does not leak which is awesome. Comes with various SAE power connectors, 12VDC cig lighter socket, DIN and clips. I bought 2...

    GS Production Numbers

Looks like the 425cc engine was put in 3 models, M, E and the L model. BTW what is your engine number? You can always start a registry, which is what I did for the GS1000S to find out how many bikes were made over the 2 years of production, after about 5 or so years, I was able to get a pretty...

    GS Production Numbers

There is a site, something like Ozebooks or ??? edit, I didn't open the link above but that was the one, read my info below to see how that info is as good as you will get, not so good for anything after 1980. BTW which Model, if it's the GS1000S I have the answers for you. David. Edit, found...

anyone go for a ride today? Pics?

Out riding in Fort Langley with my 16 year old son, I thought this would make a nice shot, cranberry harvest. Not too bad for an iphone.

    Greetings from beautiful BC

Welcome Nick, I live in BC as well. I remember that model well as a friend of mine road raced his in the production classes and was able to beat the Kawasaki Z900's and Z1000's of the day. Good luck on the restoration, plenty of good help here if needed. David.

    V50 Guzzi re-paint ie: Therapy

Larry, thanks for explaining the process and that BMW tank and the side covers sure shows the difference. That is big time risk reward and the reward is worth it if you have the patience, skill and balls to take it on. It's a treat to have you share your skills with us. David.

    V50 Guzzi re-paint ie: Therapy

Very nice work Larry, it seems a shame to have to sand down the beautiful finish just to polish it up again. I would call it good if that was mine, what's the reason for sanding and polishing after it looks so perfect. David.

    1982 GS650G Nearly Finished

Those are the stock bars for USA/Canada. In Europe, Australia and NZ they shipped with the lower superbike bars. BTW that looks awesome, nice job sir. David

    Respacing carbs - for Chuck78

Greg, at first I thought that was a typo and that you were replacing the carbs. Interesting looking project, well beyond my skill level to figure that stuff out. David.

Just got my first motorcycle.Never ridden before

Welcome to the GSR, that's a nice looking bike and seems like a very good deal at that price. Someone should be along shortly to give you a more "official welcome" with links to some important info for new GS owners. David.

    GS650E tank on GS1000?

IIRC there was a member on here that was a located in Quebec who sold parts and had dozens of bikes he was parting out, he might be a good contact if someone can remember who he is. BTW I can also confirm a 1981/82 GS650E tank will not be a direct bolt on, as I have had both bikes. Good luck...

    Engine Paint question

I see you are in the US, so 200 degrees fahrenheit is correct, a few from the other parts of the world (including Canada) that use Celsius, have blistered the paint trying to cure it at 200 C (392 F) David.

    Engine Paint question

Check the label on the can VHT SP127 I buy my paint in the US as they don't sell the SP127 in Canada. I run the engine to warm, shut it down, wait 15 mins and then run it again and get it to normal operating temp, then shut it down and the let it cool down fully and it should be done...

GS550T Stolen and Now Recovered Vancouver Island

Hey Murray, maybe you could snag that GS550T listed above and complete your trip, it actually looks pretty nice but would need some new rubber by the look of it. David.

GS550T Stolen and Now Recovered Vancouver Island

Murray, that really sucks, especially when you were on a trip. I'm heading off at the end of June for a trip to the Yukon and may consider taking something extra to lock my bike with after hearing about that. David.

    Decode my serial number

That is a 1979 GS1000 standard model, (some markets called it the 'C' model, so GS1000CN) it would have had a single front disk and spoked wheels. Starting VIN 106722 and engine number range 121074 to about 145968 The 'E' model had cast wheels and the VIN would have started with 51XXXX David.

    GS1000 Gas tank replacement options

BTW welcome to GSR, as Steve mentioned let us know what model you have and also why have you decided the tank needs replacing. It maybe possible to repair yours if it has rust inside or small pinhole leaks by installing a liner by Caswells or POR15. I've used both and had good success...

    GS1000S sidestand / exhaust

Another piece of the puzzle that I stumbled on was the #1 pipe and #4 header pipes are not interchangeable, they sort of fit, but if you got them mixed up it causes interference issues. Good luck, David.
