A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    Painting Calipers

I recommend removing as much paint as possible, you need to get more off as the photo shows a lot of loose paint, if you have a wire wheel that you can install in a cordless drill , or one on a bench grinder works as well. Clean the part really well and finish with really hot soapy water and...

    Stuck/Stripped Pilot Jets

Sorry to hear that you snapped the Torx bit in one of the pilot jets. Fortunately that has never happened to me. I owned a few of the multi drivers with all the various bits, had a few bits break and leave me stranded, so I started buying better quality screw drivers. I have sets from Wiha...

    Stuck/Stripped Pilot Jets

I have removed many stuck pilot jets using heat and a mini torx screwdriver. Give the pilot jet a few shots of your favourite penetrating oil then, heat the area around the pilot jet with a map gas torch or propane, take care not to apply too much but you need quite a bit. Tap the torx bit...

    Is this the code?

I did a "how to" write up a few years back, I'll see if I can find any pictures from that post. Basically there is a flat brass retainer holding in the cylinder plug, the retainer is held in place by the housing having been "swaged" inward. Look on the back of the assembly to find the location...

    Is this the code?

Chuck that is the code, need a key(s) for it? Also you can then rekey the seat latch to match the new ignition keys. It's easier to rekey the seat latch lock, unless you want to get those 3 little roll pins out of the ignition lock, certainly not impossible but can be a challenge. David.

    2 puzzling bolts

Looks like the drain plug repair was something like one of these horrible things, I recall buying a bike from Quebec with one like this installed. I removed it and used a Time-Sert to redo the threads, been good since.

    Ultrasonic cleaner solutions

Chuck, that sounds about right to start, more time doesn't hurt obviously, how hot did you set the heater? I use 50C (122F) The water does matter, especially if there is a lot of minerals in it, I always use distilled water, Walmart about $2.00 for a gallon. David.

Yes those are stock, and not common to see them on the GS1000S. https://www.partsoutlaw.com/oemparts/a/suz/50d40316f8700230d8b4e9c6/steering-stem I made about 25 sets of those brackets a few years ago. BTW I still have 3-4 sets left over if anyone needs a set. David

    Clutch Lever

I usually install a new clutch cable when I rebuild bikes, the old ones are usually dry and stiff. Also as mentioned above someone may have installed H/D springs thinking they are better, and that would make the lever action very firm. David.

2020 MotoGP - The Official Thread (Warning!! Spoilers!!!)

I agree if Marc Marquez stays healthy, he's probably going to win the title in 2020, his brother Alex will struggle to get top 6's (maybe even top 10's) unless he figures out that Honda GP bike quickly. One rider not mentioned is Joan Mir on the Suzuki, he has started to out qualify his team...

    Ultrasonic cleaner solutions

Steve, I bought a case of 12 about two years ago, worked out to be about $16 CAD per can IIRC, a bit pricey but a little goes a long way. Love the stuff, it's so universal, I even use it on my cereal when I run out of milk.;) David.
