A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    GS 550 Midrange missfire

Pete, I agree with others about the valve adjustments, valve adjustment is very important on these bikes to get them running right. Have you checked the timing advance mechanism, does it spring back when twisted, sometimes they can get seized up and not advance properly. Pretty cool that you...

Kiwi Canuck tries his Luck with a Six Fiddy

For whoever asked about the decal set, I was browsing Z1 Enterprises as I needed a few shims, (they have awesome pricing on the shims) and saw this. A full set of decals for the 1981 GS 650E for $91.00...

Busa, thank you for the complement, you have some pretty nice bikes yourself, especially those 2 strokes. I love the colour of your 72 GT750, always wanted one of those in that exact colour. Cheers. David.

Very cool, did you refurb/rebuild all of them?

    'notchy' steering 83 GS650GL

Damage is usually caused by loose bearing races, when left a bit too loose the bearing has room to bang back and forward causing the indents to start, once started they just get worse. IIRC it's best to tighten them with the front wheel removed so it's easier to get the feel right. From the...

Bike Finally Running - Header Pipe #2 Warm Not Hot - Cylinder Firing?

I had a similar problem on my newly rebuilt GS650E, cylinder #1 was barely warm after running the engine for 2-3 mins. I removed carbs and cleaned carb #1 in the ultrasonic cleaner, but didn't find anything obvious that could cause the issue, I could blow air through all the passages and all...

Another shot of the bike from a different angle, we took a few pictures and submitted them for our Annual BC Classic MC Club Calendar. I'm also replacing some of the photobucket pictures with IMGBOX images, my new hosting service that promises to let me use 3rd party hosting for no charge...

Kiwi Canuck tries his Luck with a Six Fiddy

Thanks Steve, appreciate the kind words. I'm very pleased with the outcome, it's better than I expected and it's a really good looking bike. BTW I did send a picture to the previous owner and he asked if I would sell it back to him. It's actually still in his name so I will return it to him...

Kiwi Canuck tries his Luck with a Six Fiddy

I'm back, I got busy and sidetracked and put the bike on hold for a while. Thanks for the comments, I will hopefully answer the questions in this post. I had a few difficult jobs to complete so I was procrastinating on tackling them. Bike was only firing on 3 cylinders when first started and...

    Good Ultrasonic Cleaner?

I use distilled water and this, I usually heat to 50 degrees C and dilute up to 40:1 or stronger if the carbs are really bad. http://www.prowax.com/cleaners/C-84_Franks_Special_Cleaner.html The problem with tap or well water it can have minerals that affect the alloy adversely and the simple...

Anthony, that's a very ingenious way to straighten a sub frame. I really struggled with my GS650E to find a suitable and safe way to do the same, ended up using a 6ft bar and 2 people to hold the bike. I figured mine may have been damaged by a flat bed tow truck driver, as they seem to always...
