My last remaining GS hasn't been ridden for a couple years. I drag raced it in '22 and 23, but gave it up when tech cards went to 100 bucks. Just been sitting since. Finally bought tabs and went for a ride yesterday up the Mt. Rainier highway. Ran great, a little hair trigger with the RS carbs and 1/4 turn throttle. Still has the drag gearing so 4500@60mph. I enjoyed the ride so I'm going to get back on the horse at 71. Greenwater general store on the way has 97 octane Ethanol Free gas.

Well, what's your opinion of the Kat for a rider? Many seem to think the best thing about the Kat is their uniqueness, I never remember anybody, even back in their day, liking them for their comfort. Wondering if you'll ever find an OEM exhaust?.. I never knew how, but the two 1000 Kats around here were very very close to the power of the GS1100's. We looked for everything for why so powerful for 1000cc, only thing we found different from the GS1100 eng., was displacement and the angle for the valve seats were slightly different.

I went to Boston with my son, and we sampled my brother's bikes at his place in Putnam CT. The '01 HD is too small for me, and not my cuppa, but I've never met a motorcycle I didn't like. The Guzzi Griso was more my style. Didn't sample the light lager pictured :D, but had some Yeunglings there, and also tried a couple from the Tree House brewery truck at Fanueil Hall Marketplace, and wow, good stuff. No Suzuki content, but soon I'll be registering and riding the blue '83 GS1100E, so there's hope for me.

My trip to Brown County started with a ride to n.w. Indiania to meet up with Tim twr1776.
THe first hour and half was riding in 95degF. Hottest day of the year so far.

Stopped for gas and utilised the mo'cykle cooling system (squirting water down my neck and back and arms inside the jacket).
Continued on, and skys turned darker, temps dropped about 10 degrees, winds got blustery, started to sprinkle, so stopped and put on rain gear and continued.
Then temps dropped some more into the mid 70s, and the rain came down hard. Storming. THe hardest rain I have ever rode thru. COntinued about 15 miles, but then found a bank drive thru awning to stop under for a while . Waited about 15-20 minutes till the storm settled down to a light rain. THen continued on.

Ride home (330 miles) from Brown County Rally Sunday.

After all these years (since 2005) of attending the rally, there in southern Indiania, I have avoided the Indainoplos area. But this time, I had reason to purposly go downtown Indy.
Grandson in a waterpolo tournament at the big facility at IU Indy. (which is why Justin didnt attend the rally.)

Sunday morning the traffic shouldnt be bad. But a problem I had was that the higways on my route (US37, I469) had been reconfigured some yeaars ago and my GPS had not had maps updated. SO the GPS is telling me stuff that doesnt match what I am seeing, and shows the highway over there and me floating in space way off the road. So I end up going wrong way on I469. ANd I get redirected a different route -where is construction- -and where I need to exit is the first of about 5 exits that are closed- so then I end up way on other side of downtown way past where I need to go. When do find an exit, on the exit ramp I hit a terrible big chuck hole that jarred me so hard it knocked the GPS out of the mount (but I have tethered) and I am investigating to see if I am still rolling and if my wheel is still round and if it still has an inflated tire. ANd its starting to rain. I find a place to stop. Remount the GPS, check wheel/tire again. ANd continue on. ANd deal with all the oneway streets. Miss a turn and have to go lot further on oneway street and circle around several blocks to get to big parking structure.

Did get there barley on time. And meet up with Justin. Was good.

Afterwards. Was raining, so I got on rain gear in the parking structure and headed out for the 4 1/2 hour ride home. Rained for about an hour, then was off/on sprinkles for another hour, then just grey skys and low 60s the rest of the way.

Home without further incident.

I find mine reasonably comfortable. The 1000s had different carbs, built to race! They came with VM32 mechanical slide carbs vs. the BS34 CVs on the 1100s.

I thought the U.S. were the only ones who got the GS1000SZ. Thought it had to do with U.S superbikes had to be under 1000cc, also romors were we only got appx. 2500 of them.. I do know our 1000 Kat's came with 34 CV carbs, and am 99% sure they were jetted exactly like the 34CV's were on the GS1100's
