DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    New Gaskets, MANY oil leaks

my 82 gs1100 leaked from a vent hole by the kickstand. Turned out to be the trans gear oil overfilled. The po must have not realized there is a screw that needs to be removed to properly set the level.

    The GS Deadly Sins

My take is this: If you have a healthy battery that is discharged there is no problem jumping from a car battery. The issue is that a car battery has the potential to push out a lot of current. That current is determined by the load, your battery in this case. If on the other hand your battery...

    CV Carbs without air box

Posted by Steve::: If you are trying to clean your carbs, that is NOT the way to do it. This will only partially clean the areas exposed to air flow. It is more important to clean the small passages inside the body where only gas flows. You need to remove the carbs from the bike, take them...

    CV Carbs without air box

I can start my bike without the air filter. It runs but will bog down/stall with a good throttle pull. I've done it for 2 reasons. 1) If the bike sits too long sometimes the only way to get it going is a quick spray of starter fluid. 2) I would spray gumout into the open airbox to clean things...

    help! won't start

try a shot of starter spray. Also make sure the choke is on and working. It sounds like you recently cleaned, maybe rebuilt the carbs so maybe the choke mechanism isn't working right. The starter fluid should still kick it over. Don't over do it though. Hope it helps. Eddie V

    Engine damage due to overheating?

The cam chain tensioner has a specific procedure to adjust it. It's fairly straight forward in the manual. I don't think it's a good thing to turn that knob otherwise. The adjustment can be thrown off. Eddie V

    charging disappointment

Would you know if the electrosport stator for an 82 gs1100gl is an HD stator. I always thought my readings were on the low side somewhere around 50-60 v if I remember right. This may explain why. Thanks. Eddie V

heating up too much - seafoam, a/f mixtures?

I've been concerned about heat issues for awhile on my 82 gs1100gl. A couple of years ago I rebuilt the top end and it seemed to run much hotter since. Many posts and much advice led to the opinion that these bikes run hot and what I'm seeing is about normal. The bike has run well and I've put...

    Gas in airbox

How does that happen? I would think the unburnt mix would get pushed out the exhaust.

    Valve adjustment discrepancy

It probably doesn't matter. As long as the valves being measured are totally closed and they are likely closed in either case. Eddie V

Installing new clutch springs, need a new gasket?

Great system. I'm curious if you do it for the valve cover gasket also. I would think that one is really difficult to make.

    Fuel leaking thru airbox question

Thanks RobertBarr, I'm totally in agreement with you. I was expecting the shop to show me something that caused it to be stuck and I would have felt much better. I rebuilt those carbs a couple of months ago. Funny thing is I remember the first carb giving me trouble pushing the seat in with...

    Fuel leaking thru airbox question

Thanks Chef, What do you think about the shop saying the float was just out of adjustment. I'm worried they may have only moved the problem away for now and it is still lurking. Thanks. Eddie V
