DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    Petcock conumdrum!

Paul, I'll check it out per your suggestions. I wonder if that tiny o-ring that fits on the valve part of the diaphragm is not seating correctly. I might swap it out with the old one and see if that makes a difference too. Haven't touched it since the other day due to other obligations, but...

    Petcock conumdrum!

I'm starting to wonder if this is happening on the front side of the petcock where the knob rotates. The older petcocks have that 4-hole gasket and if the knob does not make a good seal on the gasket, then I could see air sneaking in between the "prime" and the "on" circuits. There was a bit...

    Petcock conumdrum!

You'd think it would be easy: buy petcock rebuild kit, disassemble, clean and reassemble with new parts. Of course not! So I'm rebuilding the petcock on my 78 GS750 since small amounts of fuel were leaking from the lever when I switched from "prime" to "on". I have to say that these older...

    new clutch, hard to shift

Robin, I just found this post, so my point is probably moot. I replaced the fibers and half the springs on my 750 a few years back and had the same issue, just not as severe. I was getting a bit of forward motion with the clutch lever fully engaged and shifting was quite a bit tighter (too...

Son of a..... Broke My Primary Drive Gear

Turbo Mike, Here's 1/2 of what you need: bevel gear and drive shaft You might ask the seller if he's got the matching beveled gear. If he has not split the cases and does not intend to part out the lower end, then you have a problem. Good luck- J

    a little slippage

Robin, I with FF on this one. Either an incompatible synthetic was used in the bike or the clutch fibers and/or plates are shot. It doesn't hurt to change the springs either. When I overhauled my 750 clutch, I used three of the new (heavy duty) springs and three of the original springs...

    Urgent Help needed

This is why they pay me the big bucks! I certainly wish you the best of luck on this one... I feel your pain. For a long time, I though I would have to separate the cases on my shaftie because the output shaft casing was stuck. It's not a good feeling... J

    Urgent Help needed

Plasterdog, If you don't end up filling in the hole with new material, may I suggest that you remove the remaining mount bolt, heli-coil the hole, and then put in a two-part solution. To plug the hole to the crankcase, squeeze in some JB weld back where the hole opens into the crankcase, Next...

    82 GS1100GL Questions

That's probably it then. I believe the kickstand light uses the green/white and black/white wires to do the job. I got your email and will send you the diagram. If it revs up at idle with no problem and then cuts out while riding, then I would suspect the coils. Mine did the exact same thing...

    Alright you GS mechanical geniuses

Doot, You've got me stumped at this point. Your theory of it being heat-related seems right on, but where to go from here? Sorry I could not be of more help. jon

    Electrical output Query

Arie, Ok. But the orignal premise of my reply still stands. I'm not sure what kind of amperage the stator produces, so you're going to have to find an ammeter. The kind that has a loop that you just put around the wire in question would be ideal. This kind measures amps by the field of...

Charging issues with my '80 GS550L

Bret is on the money. Get a volt/ohm meter and the flow chart from stator papers IV and start troubleshooting. J

    Alright you GS mechanical geniuses

I know you stated that you replaced the ignitor, but if none of the plugs are firing, then I would suspect that the coils are not getting the signal to fire or that the coils are not properly grounded. I doubt that since you said you just swapped those out too. Are you 100% sure the...

    Alright you GS mechanical geniuses

I know it sucks pulling plugs when the head is hot, but have you pulled each one out after it was hot and grounded the plug to see if there is spark? Don't do this near the spark plug hole by the way - there's a chance you could ignite the fuel. -jon

    82 GS1100GL Questions

GS1100GL, There may be a few different solutions to your running rough at the top end. I just went through this about a month ago with my 1100G and after checking everything fuel related, it turned to be my coils crapping out. I swapped them out and presto, things were great. If it is not...

    Electrical output Query

Arie, It sounds like you could review the stator papers. It's not that easy to measure watts since you would have to measure voltage and amperage. However, any stator on a GS should be getting 80 volts AC when you hook up the test leads to any two leads coming from the stator. With a...

    second headlamps and electrical questions...

Snowbeard, If it is a 15W lamp, then it pulls about 2.5 amps (6V x 2.5A = 15W). Yes you could dump the voltage through another light or though a resistor, but either is going to produce heat as waste. Is your original headlamp not functioning or present? If not, why hassle with it? I know...

    well this sucks

I did 3 or 4 heli-coils on the 750 and they were 8mm bolts. The damn kit cost me $30, but at least it worked like a charm. I had a few where the frame blocked the head, but all I had to do was remove the motor mounts and jack up one side of the engine with a small pnematic jack (wooden plank...

    Brown County, Indiana

Dammit Brian, you beat me to the punch. Of course it's better since you are actually in the area and are willing to give guided tours. I second this motion. These are some great roads that have been mentioned in numerous magazines. Most of them have good visibility too which is something...
