I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

    Starter motor not getting amps?

I replaced mine with a relay from AutoZone for a 1978 small block ford engine. It was $8. The mounting holes happened to line up perfectly on my 78 GS750. It's a bit larger than the factory suzuki, and if you're tight on space, go with the aforementioned lawn mower relay. They are about...

Handlebar lock and my tail light. What gives?

Brent is right. It is meant to be a parking light for when you are on the side of the road, etc. It's a good way to make yourself conspicuous while not having to burn your headlight. J

    electrex questions

    Luke, Is that a G1 or a G2 stator? If it's a G2 (ESG020), I might make you an offer. -Jon

    '78 GS750 - HELP - Wont start and I am bike retarded

How many miles on your 750? I had about 35,000 when I replaced my coils with Dyna coils. Also, one of the first things I did after I bought the bike was put on electronic ignition. Messing with points sucks in my opinion. It's an ongoing hassle and if you feel like blowing the $125 for...

    Safety Braker

Norm, I've got a '78 GS750 and I have not had any issues with a touchy rear brake. We have the same calipers on the back. The only time I locked it up was when I had just had the bike for a few months. I've also done the stainless braided brake line on the back and it improved it only a...

    Brake light problem

Don't make the same mistake that I did and order the one that is for "Most Japanese and European motorcycles" without checking the threads of your master cylinder union bolt. I ordered the 1.25 pitch switch and the threads were too course for my 78 GS750 master cylinder. I ended up getting the...

    Brake light problem

I switched to the hydraulic brake switch from Dennis Kirk. It was $18 or $20 and it works nicely. Never have to worry about that little spring and corroding copper ever again. J

    weird amperage draw

Jim, Yes, it was an inline fuse holder. I bought a heavy duty one and crimped on some new bullet connectors and in she went in with no problem. I've been thinking about it and it must have been broken wires inside the insulation. All the connecting surfaces were clean and shiny and when I...

    weird amperage draw

Had a strange encounter with my usually reliable 78 GS750 this last week. I start up the bike and all lights start to flicker on the bike and the engine cuts in and out. I keep it going with a bit of extra gas and wiggle various wiring harnesses on the bike to no avail. So, I let off the...

Do I have progressive spings already?

Mac, I believe that when I installed my Progressive fork springs that not only were they tighter at one end, but I had two sets of springs for each fork. One was about 20-24" long and the other about 6". They may indeed be progressively wound, but not necessarily "Progressive." J :-k

    slow tach

Re: slow tach Gary, I've been inside both my gauges. There aren't any serviceable parts, but the parts in the magnet/spring/shaft mechanism should be oiled and move freely. Taking the gauges apart is labor intensive and touchy. You may just want to try to score another tach on ebay. If...

    Clutch Replacement

Re: Clutch Replacement Larry, I found this article to be of great help when I replaced my first clutch last year. It's very step by step and may give you a few extra pointers compared to the Haynes manual. http://www.motorcyclecruiser.com/tech/clutch/index.html The metal plates only need...

    where to get shocks?

If you're looking to do it on the cheap, them here are some at Cycle Recycle imported by EMGO for $90. Brand new, chrome or black. http://www.crc2onlinecatalog.com/rear_shocks.htm These are not going to ride like progressives, ikons or ohlins, but you get what you pay for! J

    70s GS750 really this undergeared?

Stock is indeed 15/41 on a 78 GS750 according to my parts fiche. I'm running tan plugs with plenty of punch and I have always got between 35 and 38 MPG. If I remember correctly, I run about 5000 RPM at 65 MPH or so. J

Anyone ever tried this flowchart from stator papers?

If you're getting 80-90 volts on your stator, then the RR is the culprit. I can't imagine that you are losing 2+ volts on bad or corroded connections, unless they are all oozing white flaky powder. -J

    Overheating?

Brad, I agree with Robin. If the solenoid is weak, it may not be working in the hot temperatures. The mechanism that closes the relay on the inside may be sticking due to the heat. If it ends up being the solenoid, goto Lowes or Home Depot and get a briggs and straton solenoid that goes on a...
