If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

cv carb rebuild question - 82gs1100gl

Hi to all, I should be up and riding soon and will post results. I just finished rebuild of the last carb and noticed the rubber plug that covers the pilot jet was not snug. I got to thinking this would not be good if a plug came off and swam around in the float bowl. My question...

    gasoline

I agree with a previos post. I only up the octane if I get pinging which is more apparent in the heat of the summer on my bike. In the cooler weather I stick with 87 and I have even found that on a cold winter day, the bike will start easier with 87 than 92 which makes sense to me...

    Rectifier question

I would think they're saying if any of the measurements are bad you need to replace the entire unit. Every measurement requires two leads. Eddie V

    Replacing Clutch. Concerns.

Thanks again for all the replies. I'm also in process of rebuilding my carbs so I won't know how the clutch will be working for awhile. By the way, the reason I decided to change it was it had hardly any friction zone left. Cable had been replaced already but it had to be way adjusted out to...

    Replacing Clutch. Concerns.

Thanks for all the replies. You guys are a great help. Yes, I'm changing the fibers. I just figured I'll change the steel also and yes I know about soaking them (the fibers). I was figuring on about 10 minutes in 10W-40. So here's where I think I'm going. 1) I tighten the hub nut leaving the...

    Replacing Clutch. Concerns.

Thanks a bunch. I am replacing the steel. Do you think it's allright if I leave that one steel plate in and only replace the remaining 8? Then I can just tighten the hub nut and not worry about getting the basket off. Thanks. Eddie V

    Replacing Clutch. Concerns.

Hi to all and thanks again for all the help and support. I hope everyone is enjoying the new riding season. I'm replacing my clutch on a 1982 gs1100gl and have some concerns. 1) Can anyone verify the order of plates. I'm wondering if they could have been installed wrong. I can't seem to get out...

    Synthetic Oils?

Yeah, that may be it. I know I have changed the gear oil in both my final drive and the trans. I do have a shaft drive gs1100. I guess your saying the chain drives use the motor oil in the gears also. Wow. I didn't know that. Thanks. Eddie V

    Clutch people, c'mon in.

I wish I ordered a few bolts with my springs. Thanks.

    Synthetic Oils?

I think your mistaken. The transmission gears sit in gear oil just like a manual trans on a car. It's only our clutchs that are sitting in the same motor oil as the engine. Eddie V

    Synthetic Oils?

I haven't used it. Been worried about the clutch slippage issue. But it seems many people have had good results. I'd say try it if you want but if you feel any clutch differences, go back to dino. Eddie V

    Clutch people, c'mon in.

Hi, I found the same thing happening. You can't start these bikes in gear when they're cold with the clutch pulled in. The clutch still grabs because of the thickness of the oil. Always start it in neautral and you shouldn't have any lurching. Once the bike is warm it seems it will start...

    failed battery?

I would try putting an ammeter on it to see if something may be draining it. Anything more than a couple of milliamps shouldn't be. If there is no drain I'd suspect the battery being that it sat so long uncharged. Eddie V

    gas in oil while running???

Yeah, they all get hot. A few times when first starting it I would very quickly touch each pipe and see that they heated up evenly and they did. At least for the first 30 seconds. Thanks. Eddie V

    gas in oil while running???

Thanks. I've been feeling the bike is running very hot. What do you think of these plugs? I think the middle two are too hot and am concerned about #1. Kind of smelled like gas. Compression is 120psi and holding in all 4 and bike runs well except for being so hot. Eddie V

    gas in oil while running???

Thanks again. Lynn: you mentioned vm carbs and steve: you said I have a mikuni bs34. Is the bs34 a vm or a cv or neither and I'm totally confused? Thanks. Eddie V

    gas in oil while running???

Thanks a bunch Redman. Great explanation. Bikes with a manual controlled petcock would have the same issue if left in the "on" position then. Is their "on" position the same as our "prime"?

    gas in oil while running???

Thanks for the replies. So the reason fuel gets into the oil on prime is because the floats are not properly closing as they should be. Is that correct? That seems clear to me. Now, if a float is sticking, what would be happening while the bike is running and not calling for a ton of fuel. Ie...
