A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    1982 1100e tach light

Guessing this would probably work for the tach light: http://www.hipoparts.com/bulb-socket-w-pigtail-wire-leads-for-194-type-t10-bulbs-plastic-or-rubber/ Can't confirm, but don't see why it wouldn't work. Edit: make sure you choose rubber socket, not plastic

    86 gs550 fork cap

Similar problem when I was rebuilding my GS450 forks... Was assembling them with new progressive springs....damn thing slipped out of place in my shop press (using as a third hand) and cap/clip/spacer went flying in different directions. Eventually I found everything....look harder. Found my...

    K & n

Popping on decel/higher temps when lean black smoke/backfiring when rich. Or it just won't run if it is way off. Run a plug check is one way to see if you're running a good tune (other than just riding it).

    K & n

I'm an engineer...so math is my forte... Both of my bikes are in storage at my friends shop...so I will hopefully take some measurements this weekend. Just purchased the GS1100, planning to tear into it (valve adjustment, carb cleaning, check stator/reg, etc)

    Oil cooler?

My bike came with a oil cooler already installed. My question is, does this require more oil than stock requirements? I would assume so?

I like the K&N RU-2852 filters, can anyone confirm the center to center is correct for the 1982 GS1100E?

still trying to get 450l to start.

Have you actually tested the compression? I assume it was running with pods and open exhaust for a while? FWIW, my #1 was slightly below the gasket surface, not exactly level. In my case it was either above or below the gasket surface, no in between. Bike had lower compression when slightly...

81 GS450 needs new clutch. What to buy, where to buy it?

Did they switch fasteners in 82? My GS450T has hex head bolts for the side covers. An air impact gun does not produce the same results...totally different animal from an impact screwdriver. I purchased clutch plates from eBay for my GS450T...work fine...

    GS450 Brake Hose routing/mounting

Does anyone have pictures of the brake house routing and mounting points? My bike was missing the two brackets that hold the brake hose... So I ordered them but am not sure exactly where they go...? Can anyone take some close up pictures of their bike? Edit: I guess there's three brackets, I'm...

    help installing turn signal switch

The stock switch has 2 extra wires because one of the stator legs runs through the switch and back to the regulator...White/Green and White/Red wires. If you haven't already wired the stator directly to the regulator, now would be a good time.

Upping the pilot jets size for stronger idle/better starting.

Before I even tuned my carbs, the first thing I did was adjust the valves (at which point I found they had burned up, and had to do a top end rebuild). 170 psi compression on both cylinders now.

Upping the pilot jets size for stronger idle/better starting.

I went to 20 from stock 17.5 pilot jets on my GS450....but I have K&N pods and essentially dual open pipes (Emgo "mufflers"). It would stumble at take off, until it warmed up for 5 minutes, now it warms up in 30 seconds. Tried opening the mixture screws, got to 4 turns and it got better but not...
