A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

    Tranny/Shifting problem

The cable doesn't appear to be streching. Will not shift while running, will not shift while off, either. I removed the clutch arm to operate it manually, feels like there is nothing there, no restance at all. Also moving the shift lever manually, also feels like nothing there. Did manual...

    Tranny/Shifting problem

OK, I pulled the fibers and steels, put the fibers in fresh oil overnight and cleaned the steels. They were clean and didn't seem to be stuck, reinstalled everything and still have the same problem. I can shift into first, but no further. While on the center stand, in 1st the wheel spins with the...

    oil drain plug

I've changed the oil in my old 850 dozens of times without problems. What size scocket do I need? I think my current 850 drain plug is 20mm, but a 20 mm doesn't quite fit and I don't have a 21mm. Should I be shopping for a socket or cusing quietly to myself. Andy

    Tranny/Shifting problem

The bike is all back together and running....But, I can't seen to shift into gear without stalling. The clutch cable seems to be adjusted correctly. While running in nutral on the ground it is fine. When I depress the clutch and try to shift to 1st it lurches and stalls while still holding the...

I used a pair of Craftsman long needle-nose. They have thin jaws and worked well for me. They were in there cheap bin, I don't think more than $2-3.00. Good luck. Andy

Greetings All, Well, I didn't make it back to work in April:(. I did have my back surgery in Feb. and it went pretty well. I needed an extra surgery a week later to fix a spinal fluid leak, but alls well now. Also had my guts fixed just over 2 weeks ago. Did not enjoy that on tiny little bit...

    Electric fuel pump

Pretty much what I expected. More effort than what it's worth. Just thinking outloud more or less. Will most likely stick to stock. I think I would like to dress up the fuel line by replacing it with braided SS. Any sources known? Would the teflon cored line used for brakes work? If so what size...

    Electric fuel pump

I've heard about fuel starvation and read about it here. While I'm in the tinker mode, would installing an electric fuel pump be worth the effort? Has anyone done this before? Mostly caused by in-line filters, I like the idea of an extra filter, but... Suggestions or ideas welcome. Thanks in...

    painting the carbs

I must agree with the idea if you have to dip them again, it's going to be a PITA. I think I'm going to experiment with the powder coat route. At least for the bowls and caps. I'll post some pictures when finished. Andy

    float bowl screw

Matchless, Thats kinda what I had thought, allowing fuel to drain without removing the screw. I am going to try to drill out and re-tap as soon as I order the right size drill and tap, probably by the weekend. Thanks for the info. Andy

    float bowl screw

The screw heads are buggered up. The few sets of carbs I've worked on all had o-rings. They did't leak, just ugly. I want to put SS there to prevent rust in the event of any water getting in there. I'll try to get a picture of what I'm talking about. Thanks for the imput Mr.Nessism. Andy

    float bowl screw

Greetings all, OK, here is my latest idea. The float bowl screw is without a doubt an oddball of the highest order. I haven't been able to find an aftermarket source. The size is M6 x 7mm with a .8 pitch. What I intend to do is, drill out the drain hole and retap to the next standard size. Be...

carb and valve carb and valve Greetings all, I have a complete #3 carb that nees to be rebuilt. It can be yours for the cost of shipping. I may be able toolocate a valve as well. If the bone yard where I took what was left of my crashed bike still has it, I should be able to get one. I am...
